If your selling zippos they probably won't bother you. It's not worth the hassle to them.

It amazes me how people are still concerned with trademark violations in domain names. A company rarely sends letters asking for trademarked domains to be transfered. In all my life I have only received one and that was from yahoo. That was several months ago and I never replied to them nor heard back from them since. Especially if you a selling the companies product you are falling in the good faith category and it would cost several thousand dollers for the company to get the domain transferred to them, not to mention the long process. Zippos.net is not a $10,000 domain. I could go on and on about this issue but have to go get brunch so I'll leave it at that

Or sell potato guns on it...
But in general, not a bad name really.

Definitely good to bring up the issue of a need to handle the Tm issue though.

Bump for you and good luck with the sale.

What amazes me is how care free many webmasters are about poaching domains containing famous, registered, and distinctive trademarks.

The odds are stacked against cybersquatters. The risk is very high. The penalty under the ACPA is $100,000 PER domain!

You can even get sued if there is no registered trademark. It is called a "Common Law Trademark."

Registering domains containing famous, registered, and distinctive TMs is playing with fire. It is insane.

zippos.com Created: 01-Jun-1997 they sell car audio
zippo.com Created: 12-Apr-1999
zippos.net Created: 08-Jan-2005
if there will be probs it will be from zippos not zippo
and they very well could come after the domain depending
on what is done with it.
use to cost 1500 to go after you. not sure anymore.
pennies to companies that care and your assured to lose.
been there done that.

Well this domain will likely not even sell for $1500.00. A corporation like Zippo will probably have to pay double just to attempt to get the domain since they have to pay lawyers etc. THEY WILL NOT BOTHER YOU FOR THIS DOMAIN AS LONG AS YOU ARE NOT COMPETING WITH THEM AND HOPEFULLY SELLING AUTHENTIC ZIPPOS AND NOT SOME OTHER PRODUCT. I CAN GUARANTEE THIS FOR ONE YEAR SO IF YOU GET A AUTHENTIC COMPLAINT THROUGH ICANN I WILL TAKE THE DOMAIN BACK, REFUND YOUR MONEY, AND GIVE THEM MY OWN FINGER. BTW people looking to buy things have been known to use an "s" at the end of the search term. People searching zippo are most likely looking for information and people searching for zippos are most likely looking to purchase.

So long as you sell their product, most don't give a shit. Weber even lost when they tried to get their dot com from their leading internet marketer because the court said the marketer was doing just as fine a job of promoting them as they ever could and probably was more experienced with internet marketing...

since zippos.com sells car stereo stuff and owned their
domain before zippo lighter peeps bought zippo.com
your probs would be with the car stereo peeps, if
they so chose to persue it. I don't see an affiliate program
with their stuff
it use to cost only 1500 to come after you.
whatever the icann fees are plus lawyers is really
no big deal to a company you piss off, offend or
attempt to take traffic from.
been there
done that
my name is still number 1 in google
for my arb case with ms cleo.

this domain is not even worth near the low bid
and you cannot guarantee shit regarding legal action
because you know what you are doing is borderline legal
at best. squatting etc.
same as saying, I know your a stand up guy and so am
I and stand up guys stand up and do the time for one
anothers crimes.
yea
right
fuck you

You presume corporations act 100% rationally.

Your advice is dangerous.
