Now, I know that Alexa isn't quite accurate, but it does show a generalized overview of the market, and from what it looks like, there are a few TGPs that are still thriving, while some of the biggest of the big are declining.

That's 4 years of stats. 2002 to 2006. The stats include 4 summers, and overall they've dropped significantly.

Those stats are over a multi-year period..

And yes, with the competition and the net getting bigger and bigger, it no suprise to see the market share lessen over the years..

Not dead by any means, but adjusting to the growth of the net.

Boneprone.com is one it's way up though. I just looked it up. Some others going up are TheHun (of course), FreeOnes and PinkWorld.

The stats in those 4 years show individual TGPs, not all TGPs. In the last 4 years the amount of TGPs has probably increased 100 times over.

Site traffic will continue to adjust as new sites are released and the way people find them changes.

Alexa really isn't a very good tool to gauge this kind of traffic...

I'm not trying to make up excuses, I do honestly believe some sites have dropped in traffic because of all the new sites out there competiting for the same surfers.

Sites are still profitable and some of the busiest on the internet.

That stats show per million. There are more surfers and more websites now, so you must take that into account before any overall conclusion.

Would I like to own any of the above sites, yes.
Are those sites still very profitable, yes.

Its more or less just getting more spread out. More places to get porn, people pick their favorites and goto that one instaid.

There's no doubt that the TGP model has definatley altered over the last couple of years. Not only is there lots more TGP sites out there nowadays but when you factor porn blogs in as well then it's little wonder that some of the big boys of yesterday are seeing their traffic drift away. Must be tough for them to swallow but like the old saying goes - all good things must come to an end.

I was just wondering the same about link lists - I looked at a few of the gay lists I submited to a few years ago and got massive traffic from - they hardly register any more.

I agree with Dirty Dane. The more relevant stat is pageviews, which is also tracked by Alexa.

Unlike brick and morter, on the internet it is guaranteed that you WILL be topped by the competition if they evolve to be better than you.

I wouldn't credit this with more TGP's and the traffic being spread out either. Today's most popular TGP's are at the traffic levels that the old guard was at years ago.
