September 5, 2006, Billy Lane, driving his 2006 Dodge Ram along Florida Route A1A, passed two cars on a double yellow line before striking a 1983 Yamaha Scooter ridden by 56-year old Gerald Morelock who was traveling in the oncoming lane. Morelock suffered extensive injuries during the collision with the pickup and was pronounced dead at the scene. [1]
Several months earlier, in June 2006, Lane was arrested by the North Carolina Highway Patrol and charged with drunk driving. He was arrested after being observed riding a motorcycle the wrong way on a two-lane road without a helmet. Lane refused a breathalyzer test and has an October court date.
