The Pledge of Allegiance Ruling

Funny stuff.

What's even funnier is the reaction of all the people who are pissed.

Does everyone in this country seriously have to whine about everything? We're a country of fucken babies.

these athiest dopes need to be slapped down.
harm has come to no one over the last 50 years because of the phase "under God" being in the pledge.

Man that shit is a trip mate, People calling in death threats and crap like that all over the word GOD I personaly think It should stay out of schools and alot of other things should stay out as well. Reason We have a lot of people in the world that do not beleive in god. THAT IS THEIR RIGHT !!! This is what wars are caused from over religian. JESZZZ I think there is a god Im not one of them people that go to church or preach or anything like that. I swear to god some of the most screwed up people are christians everyone I have ever met that said they were a true christian either fucked me, lied to me, or boinked my exwife. What a bunch of hippocrits.

But I also think if the schools want to say the pledge they should be able to and just make it a rule that the people that do not want to stand up and do it should be excused from that class only while they are pledging. it's sad that people like us the usa have to find the stupidest things to get all worked up about. jezzz why don't they just get a life

just my

eh? hehe just because someone is a athiest doesnt make them a bad person. I mean really think about it. how many different typs of bibles are they? how many type of gods are there? That would be like me saying I hate you cause you use a sponsor with bondage as the niche. I may dislike bondage but I have no right in hating you or anyone else that enjoys or beleives in it. Weird its just funny

I'm an athiest. I don't understand what your point is about *hate*
my point is, the weak need religion. Let them have a little. It hurts me not one bit to say the pledge with the phase "under God"
if it hurts anyone else, that person probably is a thin skinned maggot just out to cause trouble.

That's why this is so funny. The atheists whining about having to say it. The religious people who want everyone to know their god is kind and just and are willing to kill people to prove it whining about it being taken out.

I'm not an atheist, I'm not a Christian, I could give a rat's ass whether or not it's in the pledge, but it sure is fun watching all these people want to kill each other over a stupid phrase.

Reminds me of the Arab countries where people are out to kill everyone to prove Allah is the best.

i'm against the use of 'under god' in the pledge, as i am against 'in god we trust' on US currency. it goes against what the country was founded on (at least, in part).

but in any case, i heard on NPR this morning that WA state law is that students must perform "daily flag exercises" (the pledge isn't legislated itself, but it is a flag exercise). my question is - why do they have to do daily flag exercises? as it's only done in youth and maybe military service, it seems to me like nothing more than brainwashing, to keep people "in line".

if the goal wasn't brainwashing, i think the students would be better served if they were required to write an essay or some sort of report on US history and events every couple of months.

also, fwiw, here's a better reason why the pledge should not be read in school (same as i think all advertising should be kept out of schools) :

The Pledge of Allegiance was written in 1892 by Frank Bellamy, a nationalist and member of The Society of Christian Socialists. Bellamy worked for Youth Companion Magazine. The magazine was in the business of selling American flags. Bellamy's pledge was used dramatically to increase sales.

this is incorrect. The founding fathers were ALL religious men who were looking to protect religion *FROM* the government, not the government from religion.

brainwashing? are you that easily brainwashed? How about its a reminder that *WE* are all part of this country and giving it our "allegiance" makes *US* and *IT* better?

writing an essay would be a) a better reminder of what country we belong to, b) would get kids to learn more about the country (when such knowledge is at an all-time low) and c) would help them improve their overall learning skills.

standing up and reciting a pledge every day, hand over heart, hats off, is a mindless ritual with little benefit. (and in fact, it was a marketing gimmick to begin with.)

Not true. The pledge was changed in the 50's under McCarthyism to root out communists. The real original pledge does not contain the words "under god". That was added by right wing religious nuts in the 50's.
