Here let me save you some time: 0. Thats zero. Nobody. None.

Thats right, despite 100's of movies, shows, documentaries and 100.000's if not millions of people who claim they have physcic abilities a total of ZERO missing persons have been found thanks to them. So why ANYBODY with an IQ above 80 would believe that shit is beyond me.

There are other, seemingly popular, items to believe in that can more readily mark you an imbecile, i think... Nostradamus was, without a doubt, a brilliant man. The myths surrounding him and his life just expand on that idea - where as there are plenty of things that people fervently claim to believe in (man didn't land on the moon, human pollution has no effect on our environment, etc) that have even less sensible backing than the myths surrounding Nostradamus, imho.

Personally, I think he was just a social commentator that spoke in vague verse... leaving people to translate it all as they see fit... the guy ardently shunned the title "prophet" throughout his life... he considered himself a historian.

Lots of mythos surrounding the guy's life, for sure... my favorite being that his body was exhumed during the French Revolution and found to have a medallion around his neck with the same year of his exhumation... right before the guy that exhumed him got killed by a stray bullet from a near-by battle. I'm sure it's all bullshit, but still interesting bullshit.

Just goes to show the guy had a profound affect on people in his time.

I think you may be wrong, I think quite a few people were found using those scams.... BUT, the tips that the psychic gave them were probably "the body is near the water", or "the body is in the forest" or some vague crap like that...

They work same way as normal psychic readings, they give what seems like specific information, but really is just vague bullshit "you will live near the water", "you will have problems with your significant other", "I see death in the family" etc etc...

Well, take 1000 cases of missing people and 5000 people trying to solve them with vague shit and you will always get 1 or 2 cases where you can say it was thanks to these people they were found.

But when it comes to really pointing out where a missing person can be found there are 0 cases where this happened.

whether or not he predicted anything, I don't care.

But to believe that science has figured out our lives / existence, and what there is or isn't in this world, is using just as much blind faith as believing in beings that rise from the dead and walk on water.

I used to know this guy, who I had considered brilliant, until he told me there were no more questions to ask, because science had figured it all out...LOL

Yes there's a term for it that I forget, but basically professional "psychics" are very good at reading people and leading people to reveal what they want to be told.

It's called "Cold Reading".

It's a mixture between reading how someone responds, and fast talking or trickery making what starts as a question end up seeming like a statement, once it's been accepted.

John Edwards of "Crossing Over" fame is a good example.

After watching 'decoding nostradamus' im somewhat 50/50 about him.

How he accurately predicted his king would die is pretty crazy.

BUT, it does seem like he wrote SOOOO MUCH STUFF that some of it eventually has to become true, espically since he never said WHEN these things would happen.

So believers get excited when a 'prediction' becomes true, and then claim he's never been wrong because everything else hasnt come true 'yet'.

He was smart enough to use repetitive history without a timeline, then write it in a vague way with as few words as possible.
Anyone would be spot on with way more than probility if given such a chance and that much time.
This only really begins to unravel when enough of your predictions begin to repete like they naturally would.

There will always be wars, kings, assassinations, plagues, religious issues, you name it. Just look back some in history and walla you can now write a fairly good prediction book. Just remember to keep it vague and never any dates.

Why don't people consider something else besides the "magic" aspect of a psychic.

For example, how about a term like "precise determination" which I just coined. Is it possible for a person to be aware of human nature and circumstances to the point that they can make a precise determination about the events to happen? Everybody can do this for a case where someone says "I'm going to stick my hand in the fire for 2 minutes". We can all precisely determine that this dumb ass is going to the hospital in 5 minutes.

The problem comes in when we (meaning you and me) don't have the full information about human nature and circumstances to do this but the other person does. We then call that person a "psychic".

I predicted the US would still be fighting in Iraq in 5 years before the war started. I was not "psychic"! I just recognized the stupid human nature of the idiot in charge and understood the circustances in the middle east that would make Iraqis fight a guerilla war until the end of time. To those who had no clue about the nature/circumstances I would be a phsysic to those who had a clue I would simply have been logical.

True story - Every time I picked up a Nostradamus book (3 times) the first and middle names of me, my father and all my brothers were within the first 2 pages. Gave me chills each time. Never bothered reading any more of it though.

Actually... the best profits that I've ever been amazed by are comic book writers. To think of the cloning, lasers, warfare and space travel when they did... only to see it come to life decades later.

They come out with some pretty wild crap but sometimes they are spot on.

Hell, a Duck Tales comic had an issue where the brothers raised a sunken ship by filling it with ping pong balls.
Years later, it was done in real life!!

What an enigma Michel Nostradamus remains to this day. For no matter how many times you dismiss his predictions of future world events contained within his famous quatrains and sestets there is however an undeniable syncronicity between them and the historical record of past events that occured after his death.

His critics are quick to point out that his predictions are in the main so abstract and seemingly vague that they could be made to fit any number of events depending on how you interpret them, however his supporters retort by pointing out the following facts ;

A. Nostradamus was forced to use a highly criptic code for his predictions as at the time he lived the Catholic Church was at the high of it's repressive powers and anyone even attempting to pass themselves of as any kind of prophet or seer would have quickly incurred their rath, ( however there is evidence that Henry 11 of France was in constant contact secretly with Nostardamus throughout much of his life ).

B. Linguistics - language changes over time. Nostradamus wrote in the old French, which can often suffer from the confusion of one word having several meanings.

Over the years since his death there has been countless books written about his life and works and each one of them generally claims to be more authortive than the rest when in truth even the better ones are little more than hindsight and guesswork.

If his supporters have got it right then we have got quite a nasty ol time ahead of us in the near future culminating in a third world war of vast proportions and grisly consequences for much of mankind, LOL, but I would'nt worry too much as what other famous historical figures have made idiots of themselves by spouting all manner of apocalyptic prophesis that failed to come true I wonder
