Mpeg4 to Mp3 - GoFuckYourself.com

So my mate has downloaded his music collection to his PC using I-Tunes

He now wants to run his PC sounds through media player which doesn't import the Mpeg4 format I-Tunes uses

Can anyone advise the best (free) utility to batch convert all his music to MP3?

If he bought them in the iTunes store, he'll need to figure out how to unlock them first. They have a DRM of some sort on them.

I just looked on my iTunes (I am on a Mac however) and under the Advanced Menu there is a Convert to MP3 option. However when I tried to convert a purchased song I get the message : "Song Name" could not be converted because protected files can not be converted to other formats.

It's cumbersome but I think it may work. If you burn a CD with the songs you like, then rip the CD back to your computer as MP3s it may work. You'll have to give it a try.
