Only know two billionaires and both are fairly modest (tho one has more homes than God) but drive "average" cars, start work at 4-5am and sometimes still working at 10pm. The lawyer of the other can expect a phone call at 2-3am for some legal bullshit discussion (he now takes the phone off the hook) - it's a 24/7 job. What chance to discuss the niceities of a vehicle with four wheels? Who cares? It's a friggin car, not the crown jewels :)

Because they are living above their means, in other words they usually can't afford that $60k car. If they had any sense they would put all their available money towards paying off their mortgage a.s.a.p so that they owned their house and now have an asset.

THEN they could go and purchase that nice car, at least that way if they hit a rough year they could sell their nice car and they would still own their house.

With their current setup, if they hit a rough patch and they lose their jobs then they are literally fucked within a few months. Can't pay the mortgage = house repossessed.

Really wealthy guys are just as secure driving around in a regular car as they are in a fancy car, so it pretty much just depends on their level of frugality. From what I've observed the more money you have the more watchful of how you spend your wealth you become. And I'd agree with the one post that said the richer you get the more eccentric and weird you become.
