Motorcyle riders need your help on a purchase.

Think I finally got my girl convinced into letting me get a motorcycle. I been outta the market for a few years so I want to know if anyone has any favorites? Must at least be a 650. Superbike would be kewl, Harley, nah. But must have a seat for my girl to hang her ass off the back. And reliable. Cause I will be putting a lot of miles on it.

I was approved financially for the ZX11 way back when. So maybe that will give you and idea on my style. My friend has a BMW bike. Rides good, just funky looking. Thanks for the help in advance.

go to different dealers until you look at and sit on every different bike there is. that should give you an idea of what you want. i have a honda cbr 600rr, i love it.

If you're just learning to ride, go for a Honda. If you're an experience rider, Suzuki GSX-R.

use to race dirtbikes as a kid. me and my boys would sneak away and hit the roads with no problems. Thanks for the insight. The Honda's do look sweet. And I don't want to go balls out on my first bike. Even though I would more than love to.

I have a 2002 Honda CBR XX 1100. I picked this bike for three reasons:

1) It's fucking fast.
2) It has duel exhaust (for better balance)
3) It has a FULL seat for a passenger - not a little slab of fabric.

I have a 2006 honda CBR600RR. Fast as hell. if ur new on sportbikes i dont recomend starting on anything bigger than a 600. Go to the dealer and sit on a few. whatever feels more comfortable is what you should get. they are all so close in performance that it shouldnt be a deciding factor.

CBR has been on top of the game for quite a few years.. I wanted a 125cc when I was in my middle teens, lolz..

If you want comfort for the passenger you want a Base 600 rocket like the Suzuki Katana, Honda F4i, Yamaha YZF600R (not the R6), or Kawasaki ZZR600. They all have bigger more cocmfortable seats for the passenger. Personally I ride a R1... I dont care about the passenger lol I have much more fun riding alone.

I will do nothing but attest to Yamahas reliability, I have owned every brand but kawasaki, and I have had less problems with my Yamahas then any other. I currently Own 6 Yamahas and 1 Honda (my dads old bike)

Yamaha's have a beautiful powerplant with a nice power curve, lightweight compared to others and really slice the curves. The latest problems with the company have been TPS (throttle position sensor) problems on 04 and some 05 R1's but once replaced they were fine

Suzuki's Vibrate like a bitch and love to lose nuts and bolts, and Ive had more electrical problems with them then any other.

Honda's are a pretty well built bike but lacking in the power dept as compared to like models in the same categorys.

Biggest problem Ive ever had with any of my Yamahas was a burnt out wireing harness... but I think it was the Korean made Bulbs I put in.

Kawasaki's have beautiful power plants, but in my opinion leave something to be desired in looks, and again, ive never owned one so I cant vouch for reliability.

Sounds like you want to comfortable on long trips but will want to push it at times. Might I suggest the R 1200 ST:

I am an experienced rider with many crashes under my belt haha! This year the Kawasaki ZX10 is the fastest again but lacks in suspension and handling. I mean the Kawasaki has a hazard light button I find that to be ghetto. The best all around bike is the 06 Suzuki GSXR 1000 for speed and handling. My bike is the 06 Honda CBR 1000 it's not the fastest but it will outdo most in handling and suspension so you can always upgrade the power. I don't know anything about yamaha. Hope that helps.

all the japanese brands are reliable, with biggest wear factors being tires (mostly rear) chain and sprockets.

your bike choice depends on what type of riding you want to do, and where you will be doing it.

it also depends on your body size---most of the sub-1000cc bikes are too small for long term comfort for most guys over about 5'10".

if you are not mechanically inclined go with any of the jap bikes. if you enjoy tinkering italian sport bikes have more charisma IMO.

if you live in an area of twisty roads get a sportbike, if most of your roads are straight a cruiser type might be appropriate for comfort.

make sure you have good health insurance, take a bike safety course, and wear protection at all times. most serious motorcycle accidents happen in the first year of ownership.

run with high beams on all the time in daylight hours. be hyper alert and ultra defensive driver, understand and expect that traffic will not see you, will turn into your lane, etc.

lots of factors involved, but your personal safety should be one of the most important decisions in buying a bike.

lotsa fun, very dangerous.

my advice for you is the Suzuki SV650 and medical insurance

if you cant afford medical inurance, you cant afford to ride.

if you cant afford the best protective gear, you cant afford to ride.

if its too hot to wear all that gear, its too hot to ride.

The SV650 will be a great bike for learning and it its still a very potent machine for experienced riders, you'll be happy with it for a long time and hopefully wont kill or dismember yourself.

Sweet. BTW I was born on Davis Island.

I do need a bit of power cause I am a big guy, and yes I will run full throttle at times. not afraid to lay a bike down at all, hell one time we were offroad enduro racing and my bike went one way, i went the other right into a tree. the cappiest part about it, had to push my bike about two hours to get it back to the truck. I would have left it there but my dad did so many mods on it he would took me back out there and hung me.

Plus I jump on a friends bike once in a while to keep me in form. So its all good.

These are all great suggestions everyone. Guess I still have a lot of thinking to do so keep the suggestions coming.

heres my 06 kawi zx6r, its 14cc less than you're looking for (636)....but i love it and i get tons of compliments everywhere i go. also blows the 06 gsx-r 600s out of the water, but i have a bunch of stuff done to it. maybe $3k invested in the paint and aftermarket shit.
