do subdomains show up under site:domain.com

I'm working on a new site & am using a mix of sub.domain.com & domain.com/dir. Will the SE list the subs with the dir as more pages within site or list them when someone uses site:domain.com? I am thinking the SE would count sub.domain.com as a separate site.

When you search for "keyword site:domain.com" all matching pages which end in this domain will appear in the result. No matter if the url

domain dot com/page.html
www dot domain dot com/page.html
yourstupidsubdomainhere dot domain dot com/page.html

=> More pages, not a separate site
