I moved from LA to raise my daughter, now I live in Sacramento, good school, good night life, great weatherCarbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants
think about thatComment

I can take you to visit snow, it isn't as pretty as it looks on postcards.
Austin has two types of weather: 1. Hot with 100% humidity and; 2. Cold with 100% precipitation.
While it has always been my favorite city in TX to visit, I would limit it solely to visiting.Comment

Los Angeles is more than just the fakeness of Hollywood.
You can raise the kids in nice suburbs of LA like Pasadena which is suprisingly like Austin with it's college town feel (only bigger).
There's the Palisades and Agoura Hills. Santa Monica IMHO is a fantastic place to raise a kid. Very relaxed and non pretentious.
Choose any of the above areas and your kids will come up in a great area and also be exposed to many worldly things not possible in Austin.
I'm with Baddog, Austin is one of my favorite towns in Texas... in the US actually. But the vote goes to LA.Last edited by Pornwolf; 09-10-2006, 08:39 PM.I've trusted my sites to them for over a decade...

Can't imagine raising kids in LA. Have met a couple that are actually 'normal,' and congratulated their mother on doing a fantastic job.
Cost of living is horrible, peer pressure has got to be ridiculous. Kids where I live are driving bmw and benz to school. Yikes!!!!
Being a midwest kid, gotta go with that for some normalcy. ( I know that wasn't an option)
p.s. i've finally gotten the picture from vegas for you!Comment

I don't know about LA but in Austin, 2400sqft house, 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath, for less than $250K in a very nice area. I can't even begin to think what it is like in LA.

I think there are some great suburbs outside of LA that would be great for raising a family... Calabasas, Agoura Hills, Thousand Oaks and Pasadena.Comment

Interesting...I think when people think of LA they think of Hollywood and the hollywood mentality but it's not like that everywhere. Parts of the Valley and many outside areas of LA are good places to bring up kids...Ventura county and outside citys are great as well. The good outways the bad in my opinion!Email [email protected] | Skype: jjslimmComment

i would have to say it depends on if your a city folk or not. in cali, gas sucks, traffic really sucks, the laws will make you a felon for owning a BB gun. Dont know much about TX but I can tell you this Im moving outta Cali in 6 months. Hope this helps

i live in austin... just moved back from 2 years in nyc.Originally posted by baddogAustin has two types of weather: 1. Hot with 100% humidity and; 2. Cold with 100% precipitation.

#1 is wrong. it's hot as fuck some days, but the humidity isn't even close to nyc. (it's mid-sept and 93 today, 63 at night - i love this kind of weather though).
#2 is wrong. first off, it doesn't get cold. "bad" time in winter consists of maybe 5 days under 30. and precipitation? wtf are you talking about?
and raising a family... great schools, everything is fairly close, ppl are nice. and until you have kids, you can live as close to downtown as you want and be minutes from the lake or hill country, live music every night of the week, and a sprawling downtown area. very pet friendly and very laid back.
austin is a great place to live. if you want to know more, hit me up. need a tour guide when you visit, let me know.
downside of austin. fucking airport. you almost always have to connect to fly anywhere.

Austin is unlike any other city in Texas. It is in the only county (Travis) that voted Democrat last election and it also has 2 high schools in the top 100 in the United States according to Newsweek (from a year ago) http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7723397/site/newsweek/Comment

Yeppers ... one of the biggest states and the worst education. Baffles me ...Originally posted by aicoTexas has the worst education system in the US.

I lived in Vegas and once I had kids we had to move. The traffic and lifestyle was just too much to raise a family in. It's a personal choice and there are suburbs for any city to live in, however I think the cost of living compared to Austin would be a good factor to weigh.Comment

I would have to go with Austin. It has a lot of diversity like L.A. yet you can provide your family with a lot more. L.A. is for singles and couples, plus Austin is a beautiful place. ;)Eddie Bastian

I moved to Austin in April from Southern Cal.
This place is FUCKING AWESOME! Yeah, it's hot for a few months, not much hotter than southern cal, but we have Lake Travis, Lake Austin, Lake LBJ, one of the best nightlifes around and soooooooooooooo much to do for adults and kids, its a great place to raise a family.
Go to weather.com and do a side by side comparison and you will see that the weather is not that much different. (except for the humidity which isnt all the time and its not that bad)
I love it here, I will never go back.Comment

Oh...and BTW..
Rush hour in Austin, get this..lasts about AN HOUR!!!!!!!! I laugh when people talk about traffic in Austin. They have no idea what traffic really is.
And get this..on a friday and saturday night, you can go downtown to a 5 star restaraunt and sit down within a few minutes!
And lets not forget the live music. In Cali, if you wanted to go someplace to eat with live music, you had to look hard. In Austin, if you want to go someplace to eat WITHOUT live music, you have to look hard. And, it's GREAT music!Comment

I have a love/hate relationship with Austin. Some bad things happened to me while there but nothing that was the cities fault. I have lived in Austin before, and Texas all my life. Hit me up if you have questions 320038689Last edited by Ayla_SquareTurtle; 09-12-2006, 11:53 AM.gone. long gone.
