This whole Audio Galaxy shutdown pisses me off.
In the United States its now common practice to sue the person with the deepest pockets and it just isnt right. Cincinnati is now suing 15 different handgun makers in wrongful death suites. Sure, they made the guns but they didnt pull the trigger. The only reason they are being sued is because they have deep pockets. The real piss off is that the criminals who commited the crimes were probably sentenced to eight years, out in four on parole. They dont even enforce their handgun laws then they attack the handguns companies because people get shot. Its the same deal with Audio Galaxy. The end users get away free and a big company pays the toll.

The only reason the RIAA doesnt sue the end users is because they cant sue a billion people. When a billion people are infringing on your copyright you have to wonder why that is. Maybe if the RIAA stopped screwing their own customer base they wouldnt have these problems. How many times have you bought a $30.00 CD just to get one song you liked ? And how many times have you bought the same song ? We had records, 8 track, cassettes, now CDS. Some recordings I have bought several times. I'll bet I have spent over $300.00 in the past buying replacements of some of my favorite recordings. Why should I have to spend so much ? If you bought a content CD and the CD broke would you expect the provider to charge you $3000.00 for a replacement CD ? Of course not, but the record industry does it every day and their consumers are fed up with it. I dont know what the solution is but suing all these companies isnt going to stop millions of people who want to trade mp3. The record industry has to make some changes. Maybe they should offer end user licenses.

I certainly agree that the recording industry needs to change the way they do business ...

But I'm not convinced that the majority of the people who trade mp3 files (or other content) are necessarily "consumers" ...

Chances are ... the vast majority are probably freeloaders ... people who won't pay no matter how affordable or convenient the service is ...

We certainly see a lot of freeloaders in the adult biz ...

And, in my experience, paying customers never complain nearly as much as people who want everything to be free ... and won't pay anything to begin with ...

So I often question the complaint that "consumers are being screwed" when file trading networks are shut down ... assuming that "consumers" are paying customers versus freeloaders ...

I just read the other day some company is coming out with something like you stated... Can't remember all the facts.

What I remember is RIAA would have to sue the end user.
Which would cost WAY too much.

I think the name of the company is Cloud (something)
and Mark Anderson ( the Netscape guy ) is the founder...
It's not the Cloud (something) he founded that's in money trouble now. It's a Diff. company...

They said the same thing about Kazaa, Audiogalaxy, etc. ...

The assumption was that they could not be sued since there was no central server along the lines of what Napster had ... and the only recourse would be to sue the end users ...

Wrong ...

Now Audiogalaxy has shut down and Kazaa can't pay their legal fees after the judge ruled that the industry's case against them did have some merit ...

I downloaded this program after hearing someone "rave" about it. Absolute piece of shit. Couldn't find anything & I searched for like 7 songs.
I then started to lookup popular groups just to test the program and found almost nothing. Not to mention it was running very slow & seemed to slowdown my entire system. Needless to say it was uninstalled & deleted.
I do not recommend the program at all.
Trust me.

I have a firm belief that WE have created the freeloaders, everyone knows that the internet is full of free porn and whatever else you might need, it was thank to this that it grew to the level it has, however, the competition that we fuel to be the one with more bookmarkers, the one with more traffic, the one displaying more free pics is hurting our revenue stream, creating more and more freeloaders...

True ... although I believe it's a bit more complicated than that ...

I see sites hacked every single day where I'm pretty sure the webmasters aren't intentionally giving away their porn for free ... but they essentially are doing so because they don't secure their sites ...

Day in and day out, webmasters allow the hackers feed the freeloader machine ... which also contributes to the problem ...

ok ok I'm an idiot, then explain why it was running slow & seemed to slowdown my computer when no other programs does that?
My comp isn't the best but I've got a pentium 800 256ram.
My comp was chugging when I opened the winmx.

Also I'd type in a song name or artist / selected I wanted the .mp3 format and no results show up or very few.
I understand how to use file sharing programs & minmx was the worst one I ever tried. If it works for use then use it by all means. I prefer Kazaa! Once you remove the adware its 100X better.

As far as freeloaders, I think if someone is downloading mp3s
they never paid for, that same person would probably copy
a friends CD if Napster ( or audio galaxy ) weren't there.
People have been doing that from the radio for a long time.

erotictrance, I dont think consumers are being screwed when
Napster is shut down. I think Napster is being screwed and
forced to pay the price for millions of users who shared in
the crime. Users are being screwed everytime they have to
buy a cd to get one song they like at the price of $29.99.
I think they are being screwed when they have to buy the same
recordings 10 times in a lifetime as technology progresses from
records, 8-track, cassette, then CD. ( mini cds are next )

The record industry cant have it both ways. They cant sell me
a user license that expires when their product fails or becomes
obsolete. Lets say I bought a license to $4000.00 worth of content
from David Lace. He sends me the CD but three months later I cant
find the CD and the files are gone. For the cost of shipping and
handling plus the actual CD Rom cost Im sure I could get a copy
for about $15.00. Thats fair ! I bought the "right to use" so I
should not have to pay full price to replace it.

It just pisses me off that all this time the recording industry
raped their users, now that the tables have turned they are just
looking for deep pockets to sue instead of fixing the real problem.
