Oh my goodness...Im sorry this happened. I lost my grandmother (whom I was VERY close with) 3 weeks ago and it has been tough. No matter who or what it is (human or pooch) it is never easy to say good bye. But I have learned over the last few weeks that a person/doggie is only as "dead" as you allow them to be - it is up to you to embrace their spirit and memorialize their existence.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.

Many, many condolences to you IASW, and I know what you mean about "couldn't have a better friend" they give total unconditional love, always there for you, never answer back, truly a man's* best friend. I never wanted a dog (too much hassle) but about three years ago ended up with a young black labrador, major pain in the backside, but today there is no way I would give him up for anything and I'm not looking forward to the day he is not there for me.

Dogs in general get older I know, but Great Danes like most other big dogs, dont get that old
