Where would I begin to learn how to create web toons?

How would I go about learning how to draw/create cartoons for use in headers of designs?

What tools would I need? I have heard of pen tablets and I have heard of people just using the pen tool in photoshop. What programs are best for this? photoshop? illustrator? others?

Any information or links to good information on getting started would be great.

I sure someone must have a tutorial out there, for mainstream cartoons, then you could just go from there

You cant just learn to draw cartoons for headers or designs. You have to start with the basics, drawing lines and curves, making shapes. Then learn basic human anatomy and proportions, then perspective. Joints, muscles, squash and stretch, action poses come next. Then you could learn about lights and shadows and colors. With these you could get started with basic cartoons for headers etc.

Or you could start copying cartoons from your favourite comic books till you start getting the hand of it.

Both methods would take a bit of time.

I already know how to get good at drawing, practice.

I was asking more about the technical side of things, such as the best tools to use and any information on using them. Thanks for the advice though Toonlogos.

Get the drawing and art side down... when you have that down pact, consider the computer just another medium. Instead of color pencil, or ink, you are using your mouse, or pad as the case may be.

Learning to draw the Stan Lee way is a great resource for cartooning.

When you are ready to get popping with the digital rendering, learn illustrator very well. Photoshop will be important also, but learning to do quality work in vector would be my advice. Look through the peach pit press books on the adobe suite for help with those, and for design and technical inspiration check out anything from hillman curtis.

I use a wacom Intuos 2 tablet, they're pretty good if you want to sketch directly on the computer and specially for coloring in photoshop or fractal painter. I generally sketch with pencil on paper, ink it on paper or ink it in photoshop with the tablet, depending on the art style required. If inked outside I convert it to vector using adobe streamline. Coloring is by tablet in photoshop, or in illustrator if vector style.

So essentially you will need a scanner, a graphics tablet, photoshop/illustrator and I would recommend adobe streamline.
