about Katie Couric...
What's the big deal that Katie Couric is going to be doing the news? I just noticed on msn.com that they are asking "how will Katie do?". What's the big deal? She's a person who reads off a teleprompter... it's not like she's doing a liver transplant on someone.
I don't understand the fuss. Is it all just hype? and if so, why does the media go along with the hype? I can understand CBS making a big deal, but why would anyone else????

I kind of agree, but in the news world, she's filling some pretty big shoes and they're probably placing bets on how she performs..
There's a bit more to it than reading a script.. Ya gotta have the delivery and personality.. I think most wonder if she can play with the big dogs after doing the types of things she did in her previous position.. They seem to have forgotten the earlier things she did.. But.. I think she'll do well.. and she's much better looking than her predecessor  |

The fuss is that she is a change from the old institutions of the news. A lot of the old 'network' conventions are dying. One of the last bastions was the nightly news.
For some reason the ABC, CBS, NBC can't seem to understand that cable's changed the rules of the game. That is why they continue losing market share. It's just the old timers remembering Chronkite and some of the nastalgia.  |
