it would just take a support ticket to have the tech guys at teh DC log in via the terminal to change the root pass. That or remotely do it via a KVM/IP session.

My host always asks me for root's pass when they need to check anything. This leads me to think that they can't access it without knowing pass, unless they brute-force into it, which is a good thing.

root pass can always be reset by booting into single user mode

In linux, at teh grub screen, tybe b to boot into single user mode or from lilo type linux single
then you are in as root in single user mode. To reset, type passwd.

For Windows, just reinstall.

This is why security at datacenters is usually extremely tight....anyone with physical access to the machine can have root access w/o knowing the passwd.
