I guess the main point would be that blogs are not the magic SE bullet everyone hopes for. If you want decent SE results, especially since as you say, you are late on the scene, you will need to produce a "real" blog and not just a TGP wearing a blog's clothes. And that can be hard work.Comment

That depends on what you call an "update": I know people who only update blogs once a month, but they add a ton of content when they do. Others only add content infrequently but set it to appear on the site at different dates. I may have the wrong impression, but your question tends to suggest you are hoping for something easy. You can have an easy blog based entirely on RSS feeds pulling material in from other sites, but if you think that is the way to go, check out some of the dismal results people here and on other boards are reporting. The only way to get the SE traffic which was the appeal that got this bandwagon rolling, is to make a blog the way blogs are supposed to be: lots of unique, largely text-based content. Blogs are also readed by Google, make text with good descriptions, if ya readers just click pictures, let ya google do the reading
Update ones every 3 weeks did for me very good, slowley week after week the keyword strings grow and grow.

I would also say: write your own texts.
Much better for SE's then making use of rss feeds.
