One good thing about AOl is the mail.

having used many different hosts and mail servers over the years, AOL doesnt lose emails like ANY host will.

Isn't AOL dialup? I dont understand how people can use dialup. If I lost my brodband and there where no alternatives other then dialup or some other low speed shit. I would relocate instanty

newsflash...80%(estimation) of the world is on dialup still... that's why i said pointless for a webmaster because you should have a highspeed connection and woulnd't have a need for AOL

sidenote,AOL is trying to expand their costumer base with their broadband service and failing horrably...why? because they charge you $50 for the broadband PLUS the $25 for your AOL account lol....
It's too large now,no stopping them since they are backed by TimeWarner(God)

I love it when I come accross a porn site that has an AOL contact email address.

That looks almost as professional as having a Hotmail one.

Yea I know that, but we don't have AOL in norway so I was wondering if they had brodband as well. All webmasters should have brodband, it's on the survivor list

Since when did using AOl mean you couldnt be on cable line?

NEWSFLASH!

Set up AOl through TCP/IP direct connection cable and it take 2 seconds to sign on and check your mail.

You don't need AOL to listen to AOL radio.

AOL owns Spinner.com, which anyone with an internet connection can access for free.

I'm guessing the new AOL software just has the Spinner player built in.

the point is,if you have broadband WHY would you have AOL? just for the email address?...doesn't make sense..unless you actually use the chat services they have...but once again,WHY when you can use aim for free and use free chat services everywhere... so you basically pay $25 for an @aol email account?

hmmm, beta aol? oh that should be an absolute joy to uninstall....my rate
for fixing that is well over $100 an hour,
and know i'd use the nice low level format
that takes as long as possible....

what're you thinking boy? ever heard of
this wonderful thing called shoutcast? fuck
even windows media player can stream.

the day i install aol for my own use is
the day that i chop my fingers off, i'll
type with my dick, about as useful.

It's only $14.95 when you already have a connection and log on using TCP/IP. Yes, I use it for email that I can check anywhere I want. Essential when you travel or when you're just not on your comp. Another thing is I design a lot of web pages and with 40 million aol users you have to make sure that it looks good on aol's browser as well. Most aol users don't maximize the screen because the minimize is set as a default, so I take that into consideration when designing. If you ignore them, you're ignoring a huge audience. A 15 dollar monthly tax right off that more than pays for itself. This concludes my presentation on why webmasters have aol accounts.

As stupid as it sounds, yes. I have my AOL account for my family/friends email. I don't feel like telling all of them I have a different email. I was grandfathered in I guess you could say.

I had aol for over a year and I just switched to Roadrunner. It is so fast it's unbelievable! But I DO have to keep my account because of the mail. Otherwise I have to contact ALL of my sponsors and have them change it, and some sponsors don't even respond, plus I have too many.

Anyways, I do have a small problem with Roadrunner. After I reboot my pc, I sometimes have a REALLY hard time connecting, I always get "This page cannot be displayed" or some DNS error page (I use Explorer), I guess their conection doesn't work, and I have to reboot my pc many times before I can connect. Does anyone know how to solve this, pretty please?

O'h yeah, and the reason why I used AOL for so long is because I got it for 1 year free when I got my PC. That's how they lure new customers in. Whenever you buy a PC at Gateway or BestBuy or whenever, you usually get a 1 year free subscription to AOL.

After that 1 yr I got hooked

I love it too. That's where most of my signups come from.

We have DSL here, but I kept AOL for $14.95/mo anyway.

For personal use it's the greatest and best ISP in the whole wide world! I can't imagine not having it.

Sure, I could get most of that stuff off websites. But it's quicker to have it all right there on one program.

For instance when I'm not using AOL it goes something like this..... Find a website with chatrooms, go to someone's profile website somewhere, open AIM if I want to talk privately (and hope they have AIM too), and open Outlook to exchange pics or whatever. This is all a SERIOUS pain in the ass when I could just have all that right there on AOL.

phogirl69... do you have a static IP with roadrunner? Sounds like a combo Tcp/ip and or a static IP set on your system causing the hard to connect thing.
