:mad A big FUCK YOU to e5Hosting!! {{DRAMA}}

Hey thanks for taking the box down that I've been on for the last year or so with out backing it up first. Oh and thanks for making sure I was getting the emails "warning" of this "migration"

One thing that kinda confused me is that since when do virtual account holders need to move their sites when YOU want to move them to a new box? Isn't that a simple thing to do since you're the admins?

Again, thanks for costing me several sales a day and hundreds of hours of hand writen blog entries.

Fucking assholes.

Oh and if I'm ever in NJ you can bet your ass I'll be taking you up on that offer.

Sounds like you got seriously fucked. I share your pain.

I've been with Jaguar PC for over a year now. No drama at all and excellent support 24/7 (fast, and I mean FAST ticket response time).

I save locally in a TXT and then send it to a Gmail account, just to be sure. I also do regular db backups via mysqldump.

Don't want to get fucked.

Sperm and Antonio... you guys should also be using some type of back-up service as well. Even if your host is at error, there's always the possibility of hard drive failure where once again you'll lose everything. Back-up service is VERY important and quite affordable. Think of it as insurance.

If your business isn't worth insuring, is it worth having?

The host shut down his account and fucked up everything on the server. What makes you think they wouldn't have fucked up the backup as well? Sorry, but to me this was an intentional move.

No, I'm pretty sure I got it. Just saying, if they don't respect clients and their content, why would they respect their backups?

LOL, dude, I don't know anything about E5 aside from they were hitting GFY a while back with some pretty low prices. For all I know they were operating out of some guys basement. This has been quite the trend over the years, low prices lead to questionable service. Anyway, thats a different discussion.

You are probably right. They may not have respected back-ups. My point was: Sperm had no copies of his site, anywhere, and he really should. Thats all I was saying.

I'm sad to see you just leave like that; I wish you would have written me a message. With the 'managed by yourself' option from Tear2, as long as it pings, we assume everything is working fine for what you are doing - because, well, you opted not to have a managed server.

As I had mentioned over ICQ, we were going to move you into a better machine - you and Kris had the (now) oldest systems and we wanted to get you 'up to speed' on the latest and greatest of the lower end $100/mo systems.

However, I know many people who are happy with OC3. Good luck, man!

A cron job every midnight would have emailed you your uptodate db every day ....
Still doesn't excuse this fuck up.
I migrated virtual accounts ( 200+ ) from one box to the other, then got everyone to check, then changed the dns, but still had the "old"box untouched for 2 weeks... some clients appreciated this, allowing them to recoup their Horde emails and so on ....

from what I understand, it wasn't a 'migration' issue - it was a hack???
at least, that's what I was told..

I lucked out - backed up EVERYTHING a week ago.. it was almost a premonition..
first time I did a full backup of ALL data in 9 months...

Is it simple to set up a cronjob that does a mysqldump and then scp's the backed up file to another box? How would I handle the user/pass prompt of the other box?

Damn simple.

There are several tutorials for doing 'just this', but most are geared towards rsync. I prefer rsync, but hey, if all you want is your mysql, this should still assist you.

look into rsync ... maybe you could integreate that command in a cronjob.

edit: hadn't seen post above me on that...

i simply can't understand webmasters who get their sites hosted with hosts that no one heard of .

There are only 3 hosts i currently trust
rackspace.com , isprime.com , verio.com

verio are the most trustable network company in the world , i host my shit with them directly , never liked resellers either.

Spermy we spoke earlier today and I assured you that everything was taken care of. We always make right on any issue.

Yeah I'm not too worried about being re-billed. Even if it did happen you guys would fix it asap like with the virtual thing
