Slash

He's written some of the most awesome riffs and solos (and full songs of course), and has technique that most people don't realise he has. His tone is full of warmth, yet bite, and he's got melody down to a tee. He's the essence of quality guitar playing.

Vai and Satch are technically good, but fuck... they've written less good tunes between them than we have fingers on our hands.

Hendrix is a pioneer... but I think he's a tad over rated.

Tell you who can fucking rip it up... Prince! He's a sweet guitarist!

And Zappa could too.

But Slash is my favorite.

This has got to be the thirtieth time we've had this thread and the answers never change; it's always the same ten or fifteen guys who get named.

I say Roy Buchanan, Jimi Hendrix and Steve Vai for rock.

The guitarist I enjoy listening to the most, though, and whose music I can listen to over and over is Charo.

Best is too subjective. I'm sure there are guitarists who are "better" that alot of people never hear about.

Kinda strange that Chet Atkins isn't on the list, as he is the most recorded solo guitarist in music history.

Define "best".

As someone else said above - its far too subjective to really answer.

Best comes down to personal favorite I'd say.

I enjoy various aspects of a LOT of different guitarists, too many to pick a "best".

I used to work for Slash. He's also a very nice guy, not a dick like most rockstars.

Anyway Its not possible to say this guy is the best - I think any question regarding skills of producing a music should start with "which 1 you like the most "
