I'm thinking about it to move there sooner or later.
Is it any good over there?

And yes I like snowboarding

I talked to a guy from there yesterday. He lives near Geneva but suggested Montrose as the most beautiful city.

LOL. Switzerland is retarded expensive. Regardless of taxes.

It was the most expensive place I have ever been. I looked at real estate listings while I was there and they were astronomical for what you get. I do pretty damn good, but I honestly couldn't afford to live in swizterland.

Lake Geneva and really all of Switzerland is beautiful. I took a ski trip on the train and spent a day in Geneva while passing through.

Well then you have to do more better I quess.

And about real estate. I don't care too much about the prices. In the long term it doesn't really matter when you buy an expensive house. It will keep its value and will become worth more over the years. Only when you can't do this investment then you have a problem. With 10% taxes Switzerland looks to be the paradise for me. One day all the lazy basterds in Holland can kiss my ass and won't see any tax euro from me anymore I'm looking forward to that day

Never lived there but spent some time in Lucerne and it was gorgeous.

Some of the women in the higher priced shops were complete cunts if they knew you were American or Canadian, but other than that, it was pretty much my favorite place in Europe.

I'm from Switzerland and live in Zurich. It's the biggest town in Switzerland and has everything you need. The language is german, but many also speak english. The mountains are very close, you just travel one or two hours and can have some fun with your snowboard.

i had a girlfriend who's living there and i tried to find out about this country as much as i can.

i don't know which is the longest period you can spend there as EU citizen. ask that at the first place.

to get Swiss citizenship, you'll need 5 years and you wouldn't be able to get out of the country during the 5th year. on the final exam, you'll need decent knowledge of their history and ofcourse knowledge of German/French/Italian language (depending on the part of the country you choose for living).

taxes are so fucking high, so high it reminds me of USA. their health protection system is very stupid and conservative, due to bureaucracy: you can get medical care only in the canton where you live (the whole Switzerland is split up into cantons). it could take up to $10k to move from one canton to another.

btw, if you need to be protected of taxes, you should better get an offshore company, and go to switzerland as a tourist.

one awesome site for all of you who plan to move somewhere: Escape Artist.

I'm in the US and paid by mainly US companies. I don't think I get that kind of tax break. I agree, with %10, it would be super easy to live there. Here I'm paying a tad under %40. I'm also not making millions a year, so the %40 has more impact than it would be to someone making a few million a year.

I agree that I could afford to live there, but not as nice as I would like to or nearly as nice as I could elsewhere. I looked at places that I would like to live and they were way up near 7 figures. For what you get, it just wasn't my style.

Also, my dollar is losing buying power.

If you can though, I'd do it. It is the most beautiful place Ive ever been. Lake Geneve is breathtaking.

Correct me if Im wrong, but I think you dont have to pay taxes in Switzerland, if you make the money outside of the country. So income from the US should be tax-free.

Yes, the "big" shopping parks aren't located in the city itself. They are around the city. But you have many specialized shops and some not so big shopping parks in the city itself. I like Zurich also because there is an airport, big train station, clubs for going out, night busses, lovely bars, the lake of zurich, many cinemas....

Making money from sponsors located in the US is different than making money in other countries. I guess you could create new accounts at sponsors, swap link codes and do something shady, but many governments cooperate with each other.

From how I understood it, when you make money outside the Swiss market, you dont have to tax. But I might be wrong.

I like the city, too. Also the size of it. The only thing I missed were those big malls open until late night, or even 24/7. How far outside the centre are they? I should go there by car next time.

just came back from Geneve/Lausanne 5 days ago ... great place to live but cost of living is 2 times higher than normal. Real estate is fucking expensive - Shania Twains 'house' is for sale ... approx. 25 mil $ ;-)

concerning taxes ... it really depends in what Canton you live ... the more you earn the less % you pay :-)

Most of the stores closes at 19:00 o'clock. Some close later on Fridays. But there aren't any ones that are open 24/7 :-(
Some of the bigger ones are at Dietlikon, Wallisellen, Volketswil... That's at most 30 minutes from the city.
But i think if you live in the city, you'll find anything there you need and don't have to go to the agglomeration.

Well, you would need to get a swiss citizenship, of course.

Damn
Well, Im used to those malls...if for example the weather is bad, I can park my car there, go shopping, eat something, go to a movie theater, fitness, pools, etc...Everything under one roof. And open daily.
