They should take the back row of coach and remove a seat on both sides and make the chairs larger.

This row would be reserved for really fat people who can't fit in the normal seats.

If you remove 2,3 normal chairs to install the wide-ass chairs you should raise the price a tad to recover the loss.

the issue is: should they pay more if they take up two seats? i'd say yes for full flights, simply because that's revenue southwest is losing. for other flights, i guess i wouldn't be a fan of that. in any case, if they don't charge more, southwest will just raise the rates for everyone to make up for it.

for most people, it's not like they were born unable to control it. they developed patterns and behaviors that maintain their "disease".

I believe that's Southwest's plan. Pay more for an extra seat, then get a refund if the plane isn't full.

I had this experience a few weeks ago. I had a transfer flight and this fat guy had is elbow on me the entire flight because he couldn't keep it on "his side". He came on at the last minute and we were already up in the air when I realized that it was going to be a problem. It was also completley full so there was no shuffling anyone around. I couldn't even put the arm rest down because he wouldn't have been able to fit. I even asked him politely if he could move his arm over a little because he was hitting me (as if he didn't know) and he said "I'm over as far as I can go" and just ignored it as if it was no big deal. That's when I got pissed. It was like he was saying "I'm bumping into you in your seat that you paid for, oh well, deal with it." Fuck that, they should be charged for two seats. That's an inconvenience to other passengers that are sitting next to them. If I pay for a ticket I don't want someone's body touching me because they can't fit in their seat. That was hands down the worst plane ride of my life.

If they don't charge fat people that can't fit in their seats more for riding in planes, they should give a discount to the passengers that have to sit next to them.

I fail to see your point. Many, many people have diseases or conditions that greatly affect their everyday lifestyle, and they ALWAYS have to pay extra for them if need be. If someone needs extra room on a plane, it should be their responsibility and common courtesy to reserve the next seat so that both them and their fellow passengers can ride comfortably.

If I was that fat, you can bet I would reserve the next seat. There's no way in hell I would sit in those small seats for 3-4 hours. It's common courtesy, good Lord. It's not like we're saying they should pay extra just because they're fat.

Someone mentioned paying per pound. Awesome idea. Totally for it. I usually take several suitcases and bags anyway, but still for it. Sounds pretty fair to all of the walk-ons. I wonder what the airlines would have to say about that?

what about someone who is tall? Sure I'm fat but I don't fit in the fuckin airline seats due to HEIGHT. my knees are right against the seat infront of me and it's horrible. In canada first class is 4X the cost of economy and I have a hard time justifying paying the extra but on longer flights I ABSOLUTLY need the leg room and fork out the extra money not for first class service but only for the few extra inches for my legs.
