Heh. Someone basically accused me last week of making business decisions that made me money.

What some people seemingly don't understand is that you can do something that both benefits other people and yourself. "Hats off" to the contest. It's a great idea, gets some exposure for designers and aspiring designers, provides some entertainment, and makes someone some money.
