Dirt poor rednecks from 1950s Alabama dressed better and carried themselves with more pride than rich people in LA do today. Why is that? Do people just not care anymore? Guess there's nothing worth fighting for these days.

THis is very often for a person to care how he looks like when in fact he has no money. His intention is to make people think that he has money. THat is why in America, where people are richer in the whole never cared about their dress: jeans, sweater and that is all.

        fighting for?

were poor people fighting for something?

here is a little secret about human behavior... people tend to do what other people are doing and there does not have to be any sound reason for it.

You just labelled folks and stuffed them into a category Hooligan What is the relationship between rednecks and poor?

Mode of dress can be very misleading.

I know plenty "poor" families who live in very modest accomodation (seriously modest!!), and can't say they are any different to anyone else. They are always clean, dressed well - often better than a few "rich" people.

Example... was at an informal biz meeting with about 15 people present and spent a few mins "people watching". About 10 of these folks were "poor", the rest varied in "wealth". The dress mode was the same with all - it was not possible to ID the rich or poor. But... when you chatted, there was a vast difference in attitudes and values. The "poor" showed far more mutual respect all round and oozed "values" - it is obvious many had different priorities than being rich and dress mode did not seem to play a part.

With the "not poor" at that meeting - they varied, but included the other extreme where one guy has billions of dollars in assets (doubt he even knows exactly how much) - the rich were dressed no different to the poor.

Weirdo thing about the "poor" - (and when I say "poor" - some were living in dirt floor homes), is that a few made a point of doing some international travel with their families once a year and had visited more continents than most of us have - it's all about values and priorities
