What good is america? Seriously...

I'm not sayin Canada is better...

but with a national debt of over 8 trillion dollars,
and one of the highest rates of murder, rape and theft in the world
and with a dollar that is continuously falling in value,
and with high levels of curruption in the government,
and with an attitude that makes the majority of other countries hate them,
and with people suing each other left and right for every possible penny,
and with all the scamming and embezzlement going on on a daily basis,
and with all the nature destruction, the ozone layer, the endangered species,
and with the constant fear of terrorism,
and with many other important reasons I simply cannot think of right now,

what good is America? seriously?

That means Canada is worse taht what you just described.

Meaning you think Canada is even a bigger shithole. So why start the "What good is america? Seriously..." tread. If its Canada that sucks.

Yea thats what i meant, i didnt edit in time.

But thats what this is. I mean you cannot compare the U.S agaisnt nothing. We need a country that is good, so that we can see how bad the U.S is. I guess we can cross Canada off that list. We have already made it clear taht Canada sucks even more.

But then again why dont you start "What Good is Mexcio" thread. After all, millions of people flee every year because it sucks so much. Where is your "What good is "Insert any 3rd Country" where the people dont have free elections, more than half live under the poverty line, and etc.

Why not? Because this thread gets you more sig views? Or because you hate America.

How did we make that more clear?
I happen to think Canada is a much better place to live than the US!

USA claims to be the best place in the world, the best in the world, the world itself.

For claiming to be so great, what do they have to show for it? a large army? is that all?

I don't know... When you put it like that, it makes the rest of the world seem so peachy. Not that I am any scholar or anything, but I would assume that most of what you just said applies to like every country, province, and established group of people on the planet. And your selective memory about our dealings with the rest of the world is fucking astounding. But hey, if you don't like America, than stay the fuck out and stop your bitchin. I'm not even mad about what you said because I know you just want everybody to see your sig, so you post your little immature thread to turn some heads. Grow up dude and go fuck yourself

Really, id like to see where "USA" claims that. Did all the big masses of lands get together at a Convetion and "USA" happened to claim we are better.

And dont try to backpeddle. Your thread is "What good is america? Seriously..." That has nothing to do with us not living up to "our" claims.

French, Indian, whatever - that was not the subject of the thread - just the usual attempts at diverting and attacking.

That wasnt what i asked.

I didnt ask if any were posted in this thread yet (which btw they were).

I am asking if you honestly beleive that there are no good reasons for "What good is America"

Not what bdjuff thinks (its okay, you can have your own opinion) but what you think.

why i like america:

land of oppurtunity
higher paying wages then canada
less income tax then canada
more population + market
cheaper products (ie cars)
better clothing shopping
large cities (i love visiting large cities canada lacks)
our protector (you know dam well americans would help us)
mexicans as major imigrants

oooo not to mention a little something like they are the nets biggest purchasers, its not like they dont buy porn.

I LOVE the USA, i am going for dual citizenship coming up here soon. i have been all over the country and have loved almost every single city i have been in (except detroit because it was to humid)

It's not about what I think. The thread was a very simple question, "What good is America?"

What are your reasons? You live in the place.

My reasons are the same as already posted. Metaman has a good list, but holograph nailed it with "the land of opportunism"

My question which a 4 year old can answer is simple.
Do you, Webby, believe that there are no reasons that make America good.

Again, you have given no reasons, other than copy from elsewhere.

And, again, it's not about what I think.

"Opportunism" is not necessarily a "quality" or special feature - that exists everywhere for better or worse. It hate to say the best feature of any country was "opportunism".

Try harder.

why would you hate to say that? any country that has Opportunism for all is a major quality.

why do you think so many people want to immigrate to the USA, maybe because it has better oppurtunities then where they are from?

OK.. There is one vast difference between opportunism and opportunity. Which is it?

Sure.. understand what you are saying. However the US is not any leader in opportunity - that exists in many nations.

OK.. "What good is america?" Has it anything to offer as a nation? If so, what? Does it have anything to offer on the planet as a whole? If so, what?

PS Fuck me - even I can think of some good

Sadly that is not accurate DEA. The US is prob the most "less free" of any western nation.

Good enough to protect from an invasion or continued attack so far.
And good enough to deter the same from happening to Canada.

Sure.. understand what you are saying. However the US is not any leader in opportunity - that exists in many nations.

OK.. "What good is america?" Has it anything to offer as a nation? If so, what? Does it have anything to offer on the planet as a whole? If so, what?

PS Fuck me - even I can think of some good
as a nation, NASA for example, i dont think space exploration would be near the same if it wasnt for the usa.

its everyones judgement on which countries have the mose oppurtunities, but i gotta say america is the leader, if you look across the board at similar jobs around the world i would have to say that pay compared to cost of living is tops in the states.

i would have to also say overall pride, many americans are proud to be american. i see less pride in canada and it totalls sucks.

we could get all picky but it is all just opinion, what good are HUMANS anyway in the first place? i want to be a dam wolverine.

Agree man - NASA is one.

Not sure about the "pride" thing or whatever it is, patriotism - that only appears to have a tendency to cause division in any nation, - which is not helpful. This also encourages.. dunno, a dumbness, in that there is far less awareness of the real world.

Opportunity is another matter - and valid in respect of the US as a whole. On the other hand, there are too many opportunities in many other nations - and in a commercial sense, - far greater benefits which supercede the US or any industrialised "western" country.

On a person level, the US is a nation of consumption. This can be good and bad. Consumption if fine if you can afford to pay for it - which is obviously not the case at this time. Consumption of natural resources is... bad. For any nation holding less than 5% of world population to be consuming 25% of natural resources is unsustainable.

There are a couple of pluses on the larger scale as regards the US being of benefit overall and a number of.. not so good stuff. The benefits are the only two trade surpluses the US has - wheat and arms. All other trading is a deficit. If this were to continue (and suspect it will), it's unsustainable. Related to that is the funding the US is getting from other nations - basically external debt. At last look, the Central Bank of China was lending the US between $2-$3 billion daily and where that amount is only around 20-25% of daily borrowings. This is obviously passing control of domestic currency to other nations - and, it's obvious why the dollar value is depleted.

Overall, on a personal basis, it appears the US has much to offer - ie cheap cars blah. However much of that is a reflection of a declining manufacturing base - the car industry is up shit creek along with many more domestic manufacturing industries. "Good deals" for an individual consumer can cost real money elsewhere.

OK.. Enough Bottom line, it's unsustainable - and this has started showing already. Give it another five - ten years and it will be more severe, unless some action is taken to control the overall problem - unlikely.

Let's be fair here. You started the thread with a very negative tone. Did you really expect anybody to hop up and jump at the opportunity to appease you?

I could go on for quite some time as to why I think the United States is a great country. And I would absolutely expect you to be able to do the same about Canada. And our German friends about Germany. And our French friends about France.

When you grow up a certain way, experience particular events, and learn specific things, you tend to gravitate towards those things and latch on. Over the past 100 years the world has grown a great deal, for the better. The "huge gap" between lands of oppression and lands of opportunity shrinks more and more every year. And thats a GOOD thing.

I will give one answer to your question, thank God we don't have the taxes some of our fellow civilized countries have.

i agree with this, the USA seems to be not the same place as it used to be, but i think America is def. a resilient country and can rebound to be where it once was.

there is always ups and down in any nation the key is to how they rebound after downs.

It isn't the same. There are new major players popping up all of the time. The world is kind of leveling off.
