Serious question. Why don't more shooters open content stores?

Not trying to spam or start a war, but seriously why don't more shooters shoot for themselves.

The rewards are slightly more than custom and the hassle is no different. I would rather have the freedom to tell a girl to take a hike, than have to shoot her because we have her ordered.

Been trawling around a few resource boards. Between the guys with nothing new for 6 months, the idiots who think shooting any girl naked will sell and the guys who never reply it was a waste of time.

So why don't the good guys shoot for themselves?

Better question is why did so many of the content stores shut down.

We don't make the money some think, but a lot more than custom shooters.

Because non exclusive is totally saturated and we are selling it hand over fist to everyone.

I have a bigger question
In my quest for content, I have been wondering why don't more content brokers/producers have better shopping cart systems. Some are really good and some seem almost like an afterthought. How can I give them my money when they won't let me? I've seen content stores without search features, with no prominent link to view a shopping cart, with messed up javascript errors, etc.

If someone wants to make some great $$ in this business, they should create a turnkey content shopping cart system for content producers/brokers.

Do you want great content that converts and makes you rich or an easy life?

Content producers are rarely programmers and programmers are rarely content producers.

Great content is a wonderful thing, but great content that I can't purchase due to a broken shopping cart is great content that I can't put on our sites ;-)

I'm not asking photographers to be programmers, just to make it easier for me to give them my money....

Would it not relate to providing 2257 to any nutbag willing to pay for it?
I often wonder how this is handled since secondary producers are suppose
to carry docs. Can someone explain the norm on how this works?

I've had a hard time lately looking for content in certain niches aside from the DVD titles that are available.

Silly Question...Paul you know as well as I do, that it's not something you just do....Shooting content that sells demands a lot of effort...finding the girls, location, make-up artist...you name it.

Okay if you just want to shoot the neighbors daughter taking her slip of, with no make up and greasy hair...then it's easy, but if you want to provide quality content, then it's a lot of work.

By the way SykkBoy2....I have a great shopping cart that works well

I know it might sound obvious but how about just giving them a list of what you need and telling them to sort it out.

But I did email a lot and never got a reply.

As a buyer though, the shopping experience is a freakin pain... The "stores" need to get a hell of a lot better in regards to niches, letting buyers mark sets so they're not seen again.. or not presenting sets they've already bought etc. etc. etc. Having to sift through hundreds of crap sets to find the good ones is a waste of time and money. I've often given up which means the content store and producers are losing out on potential sales.

You know as much as anyone Paul

Various reasons - they don't have the time or don't want to market to the net etc.

Producing crap for net usage is one market, - there are plenty other markets where clients pay good money for quality imaging. In adult, can think of a few guys who don't touch the net.

One operates a factory production line with carpenters constructing fresh sets, - always having three operational, and doing three shoots a day and a sales office staff selling content internationally.

The adult net biz is a niche for shooters - some work that niche, others never touch it.

Most people can't make a living shooting major niches for the Internet, don't expect to see too much in the micro niches.

Paul,

honestly I dont know, I certainly consider myself FAR better then most shoots out there, I do mainstream work and have gone as far as to have a education in film as well. I just am afraid to sell content when I can use it myself... I have talked with other shooters about this as well and the desision between selling your images and selling a website with your own becomes a tough one to pick sides. For me personally I see mediocre shots on big paysites and think if surfers are buying that then I have to be able to build a bigger better mousetrap with better shots/poses/lighting/etc...

I think you have a good reason, but as you say it does not stop them brokering it and a set brokered with 3-4 brokers can make more than a single sale. Depends on quality. We employed the programmers so we cna concentrate on shooting.

Some of the facilities you ask for might be something we could look at, marking sets as favorites for future purchase or crap to be forgotten are both excellent ideas. You are right wading through some sites is a nightmare, they boast they put up 100 sets today and I think, "So I have to wade through 99 to find the good one?"

Niches are a touchy subject with me, they simply do not sell well enough to bother with. Everyone tells me they sell to surfers like hot cakes, so why don't the buyers buy more and want to pay more?

I agree a lot of content producers are losing out on sales.

OUnique has this which I love.. You can set up multiple carts and put different niches or whatever in the different carts and it seems to remember it forever.

Yeah.. Or it's more like they have say 500 sets in a particular niche and you've reviewed all of them.. Then a few months later you come back to buy more and you have to wade thru all 500, including the ones you've already bought, PLUS the new sets... Freakin pain in the ass.

It's all relative... Just because they sell like "hot cakes" doesn't mean they sell a shit load.. There's less traffic in those niches. Right now I'm converting about 1:40 on crap tgp traffic for a new niche site... but that might only mean a sales a day. And often, niches are revshare.. So in the case of PPS, I might only have to make 1 sale to pay for a set of content, but with the niche I'd have to make 2-3 sales. So we can't really afford to pay more... But we'd definately buy if good content was available.

that is most of it for me - another reason is I have tried to do business with websites and it's a joke. most of them deserve not to get anything worth having in the first place.
