Nice dbase server needed - spam me!
OK folks, I'm looking for a nice loaded server for high thruput dbase queries.
No control panel nonsense required, but scsi drives and ram are a must. Dual cores would be just sweet also. The very best offers I've had at the moment (v. seriously thinking about it) are the following: Code:
P4 820 (2x2.8GHz 2MB Cache), 2GB DDR, 2 * 160GB SATA HDD, RAID1 - $99/mo. + $149 setup Dual Xeon 2.4GHz 1MB Cache, 2GB ECC DDR, 2 * 36GB 10K DRPM SCSI HDD, RAID1 - $99/mo. + $249 setup Dual Xeon 2.4GHz 1MB Cache, 3GB ECC DDR, 2 * 73GB SCSI RAID1 for $99/mo ($349 setup) Can you better any of these three deals? If so, spam me ![]() US or EU location. Either is good. I currently have 4 dedicated servers and have been renting servers for over 4 years - I'm in in for the long haul, so don't mind a small upfront setup cost to bring down the monthly rental. Cheers

wanted to edit, but timed out - this is an unmanaged server I require (but Level1 management is essential). Please indicated any extras like KVM or remote reboot ports etc etc
Also, FreeBSD please.

I checked out http://tailoredservers.com/ and wasn't able to come up with pricing anywhere near what you are posting here. Are you sure you aren't mixing up the monthly price with the setup fee?
Like on the machine you listed : Dual Xeon 2.4GHz 1MB Cache, 2GB ECC DDR, 2 * 36GB 10K DRPM SCSI HDD, RAID1 - $99/mo. + $249 setup The price I come up with is actually $359/mo and $199 setup. If you are looking to get into this for the long haul, and want reliability, then don't even think of going with "cheap". Cheap ends up being just that in the end. Garbage, and a nightmare hosting experience. If you want to consider something truly reliable, feel free to hit me up. But the price will be more then what you are listing above. Do you own a cheap car, cheap house, cheap cloths? No? Why not? Think about it. |

It was a special posted on webhostingtalk which I negotiated down the setup costs
http://webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=534159 actually the first dual xeon with the dual 36gb scsis has gone, but the other two can still be had

One of the following is happening. Used equipment Shit equipment LayeredTech is fairly inexpensive, but not $99 for a dual Xeon. We would be willing to match them, without the setup fee. Keep in mind, LayeredTech is not multi-homed, we are. |

I'd be happy to give you a quote, but if you're seriously trying to compete with $99 a month for 5mbps and the server specs you mentioned, I can't touch that. That is extremely cheap, even with no management services. For bandwidth alone that would be less than 7 cents per gb, and that hasn't configured in other expenses like hardware, space rental, etc. Makes me wonder what corners their cutting to offer those prices.
If interested in talking, feel free to email me at [email protected] .

No one can offer a dual xeon with 5mbs bandwith for $99. If they could id take every server they have at that price, close down my hosting operation, sell all my equiptment, and host everything i have with them.
I get $299-$349 a month for 5 mbs and a dual 2.8ghz xeon ibm server, good luck in your quest

Yes, yes, I understand what you are saying, hence my post here - I don't really care for dual xeons/opterons whatever, but dual processors/cores would be nice, since I want large threading database intensive serving, hence the ram and scsis...

Dual xeons for 99/mo is very cheap. for a db server you should have a 2.8 dual xeon with a scsi drive at the very least and i am 200/mo, no set up. those are some good eals you got there. not sure of the quality, but the price is terrific.

Actually LT has their own IP's, but don't have an AS record. Some odd stuff. So it appears SAVVIS announces all their space. But in the end, this still doesn't make them multi-homed.
