Model/Photographer who makes more?

What are your rates/profit for a shoot vs how much you pay for the model for different scenes, solo, straight nude soft, etc. If I'm setting things up I expect to be making more then the model without cheaping out on her. I think she needs to pull enough so that she gets a good rate, yet I make more then she does at the end of the day to balance the risk for me putting out cash and having to sell the content afterwards. This a good policy or should I hash out the cash large for good talent and make something like half what she makes from me?

This is a question that is difficult to answer without resorting to broad generalities. Each situation is individual and unique.

Nothing's carved in stone. Some models will turn a profit margin...others won't. There are many factors involved. Often the profits are determined by the effectiveness of your marketing. Over the years I've seen average-looking models do very well...yet on the flip side have seen stunning models barely break even (or less).

As to the question of who should make more - I say it comes down to who has the most invested (usually the photographer). Many models these days have unreasonable wage/compensation expectations. Few stop to think just how much the photographer has invested in gear, experience and expertise.

Smart producer makes more than a model while keeping the model happy

i guess that would depend who the model/photographer was , how often they worked , and how "distributed" the produced content would be. (interpreted: on average the set/location/etc. will cost more than the model but then my emphasis is on exclusive and not content slated for distribution to 100 porn sites.)
in regards to hourly that is something your going to have to work out within your own budget which will vary depending upon your location/currency type/etc.(i can get 3 filipino's to 1 american model)
i always view the model as "on-going" so i establish a "base per shoot" which is more in the long-run but not the "big money" for someone "established" you would use one time for a promotion or something.

exclusive content - $X00.00 photo/film

non-exclusive (distribution to 100) - $X0.00 x 100

It depends on who is shooting and who is modelling and then who is modelling.

There is no answer to cover all situations.

If it's a good shooter who knows how to shoot porn, then knows how to sell it he will make a lot more than the models.

If it's some guy without a clue, he is very likely to lose money.

But then I'm terrified these guys will pick up a camera and take away all my business.

It does not bother me if a models rate is higher then mine. As long as I make a good rate for my work, I'm happy to give her her rate as well. We have models coming out of the woodwork to shoot with us because we are more then fair with our rates and how we treat the girls. Some of them make less then me and some of them make more then me. I'm fine with it either way

There are models and models - a girl with a fan following is obviously more commercially appealing and sellable - and often costs more. The "average" model costs less, but she is exactly that - "average", and not exactly top-selling product.

Again.. depends what the end product is - if it's hardcore cheapo net stuff - who cares? If it's mean't for print media - matters more.

Botton line - Doubt there is *any* hard and fast rule - never found one yet. Only possible clue would be to consider what the end result is supposed to be, where's the market, what kinda financial commitment is it worth to turn a profit on that shoot. The shooters profit element can be less or can be more than that paid to a model - depends on commerical judgement. Sheesh - that ain't much help Cris

PS "Good" models (whatever that means), least the one's we've used are good for whatever the end result is supposed to be - but also good because they dump one hell of a lot more useable and marketable content on the table - ie if it's stills stuff - every shot will be perfect - not one in ten. Suppose that's got to be a factor when considering to pay more (tho even good models can screw up!)

And then sites that don't turn that over in 2 months are wondering why she will not sign an exclusive contract.

They earn more there than here. A hardcore model here can earn $10k a month on average and up to $20k for good ones. Career 4 years uless exceptional.
