so Canon has finally understood that offering a HDV cam at $9K doesn't help the sales when Sony charges 1/3 of that...

ok, now the Sony FX1 has a rival, but for someone like us, who have 2 FX1, there's no reason to get excited. i don't see anything that'd make the Canon any better than the Sony

for someone that starts getting into HDV it might be interesting to check out both

I'll stick with my trusty GL2 until I find a real reason to upgrade.

i looked at the specs and comparison chart - canon has finally done it if the optics are sharp - lots of well thought out additions here

I just got the Panasonic HVX - 200. Best tool I ever bought. The Sony doesn't even come close. It's a lil more expensive but WOW...

http://www.panasonic.com/business/pr...x200/index.asp

I can record on tape (mini DV) or on P2 cards and switch between SD/HD it has a TON of different shooting modes.

Check it out.

I feel the same way about my dvx100a rather spend the money on upgrading lighting.

I have to ask this, why do you need HD for the web? Someone please explain this to me. DVD production, sure no brainer there, but for the web? A 3CCD cam is all you need, plus editing in HD takes more time and reasources, just seems silly to me.

One of the first sensible posts on gfy in six months! It's just a selling point... there are no sites that have true HD content as it is, the bandwidth on true HD is fucking insane. Sure, you can have HD resolutions, but the quality isn't going to be there. Hell, there are few sites that have true DVD quality as it is, much less HD =\

It's totally silly. 3CCD is fine for what we do.

I am sure you can rent it at any professional camera rental, like Samy's Camera here in LA. Take her for a test drive. I always rent the equipment before I buy it, make sure I like how it works, feels, etc. Saves me the heartbreak and the money loss.

you are 100% correct. I bought the Panny HVX 200 but I also shoot for mainstream projects for clients and I like the fact that I can offer several "modes". But for the web alone, you are right. I know people that shoot HD and then convert it to reg windows media files.. uuhmm.. yeah, makes sense.. NOT

That would be logical evolution for the web, however I think we are a few years away from it. Untill DL speeds get to be extremely fast I don't see it happening anytime soon.

Wish it had a better mic... it's the main reason i keep shooting with my cannon XL1 with a manual lens.
