so I saw one of these 70's porn movies where it reads
ACE HARDWARE

the hardware store that is in our local neighborhood
did they fund or produce porn videos back in the day

or did the porn movies just rip that name off?

Most likely just a rip off. Porn movies often spoof real titles, and I have no idea as to the enforcement of copyrights in the 1970's... or if the title just appears to be close to the 'Ace Hardware' name. It could be 'Ace's Hard Ware' or something like that. I did find out from my Google search that Ace Hardware was started in the 1920's.

I know Red Bull sponsors whorehouse grand openings.
