Most popular sports in USA?

Is the order correct?

1) American Football
2) Beisbol
3) NBA (Basquetball)
4) Ice Hockey
5) Golf
6) Tennis
7) IndyCar?

With "Popular" I am considering several factors. Not only TV, but marketing, how people talk about it on a daily basis, How media, newspapers talk about it. I'm sure they don't speak so much about Andy Rodick or Tiger Woods. But they use many pages to talk about the Super Bowl. How kids talk about it. How much people go to stadiums, etc etc etc. That's what I mean with Most Popular Sports.

I read somewhere that they sell more baseball gloves in a month than footballs in a year, so I'm guessing baseball is the most popular, probably followed by football and basketbal

That would totally depend on the season.

Throughout the summer you'll hear a lot about racing, baseball, and golf. Throughout the winter you'll hear a lot about football, basketball, boxing, and maybe hockey, depending on where in the country you live.

To play football you need one football. To play baseball you need 18 gloves. :-)

Baseball and soccer are probably the 2 biggest youth sports. Both are huge, for girls and boys alike.

LMAO, did it ever occur to you that when you play baseball there are two teams each team has 9 guys on the field, each with a glove? so that's 18 gloves just to play...

Football, you just need 1 ball, for everyone to play...

edit: apparently it did... lol

NFL football by far is the most popular sport in America - followed by college football - then ......... baseball is in serious decline with young people but it's still pretty big with older people - college hoops for February and March is huge - bigger than the NBA - NASCAR is catching up with basketball and is huge of course in the South - hockey is strictly a niche sport in the US -
open wheel racing is not very popular in the US, NASCAR has taken over

as far as playing - black kids have virtually stopped playing baseball, they play basketball and football - baseball if you include softball and slowpitch is still right up there in popularity for all ages - soccer is the most popular for kids playing cuz it's so cheap and there's no violence and not as much pressure for a kid as in sports like baseball - golf is huge with adults now and growing with kids - most cities now have tons of good public golf course - still need to be upper middle class to have your kids playing alot of golf -
basketball is big with kids whether it's just schoolyard or more organized -

American Football by far, just look at how much money it rakes in (even at the high school level!). Baseball would probably be second, basketball third. Nascar... eh... is it really a sport? =\ Golf is pretty popular, Hockey isn't that popular in the states but it has a loyal fan base. The most popular sport in the world though would have to be volleyball believe it or not.

I disagree. There are roughly one billion volleyball players worldwide, I couldn't find evidence of more than 500 million football players worldwide (and I call it football, not soccer).

You're telling me one out of 6 people plays volleyball on a somewhat regular basis? I don't know anybody that plays volleyball except once a year at the beach.

Every school I ever attended the kids played soccer, maybe it's just a southern thing here in the states? But yes, around a billion people play volleyball worldwide according to FIVB.

Pro football and college football are the same sport. Slightly different rules but same sport. Likewise for pro and college basketball. Adjust your lists accordingly.

No, kids everywhere play soccer. Its a very versatile sport. You can have 30 people on the field "playing" even if you only have 15 minutes to spare, whereas baseball you can't and even football is pretty difficult.

Actually there are people that LOVE college football and can't stand pro football and vise versa. But yes with both combined it's the most popular sport.

Nascar is probably second though I still can't figure out the fascination with watching 40 rednecks drive in a circle for 3 hours.

That reminds me people in Latin America. Simple worker use 10 minutes break for dinner to play football on the area of 50 sq. m.

Very true, you'll get no arguement from me on that but that doesn't mean it's a different sport. They are just different leagues playing the same sport of football.

I can't watch any of those cars competitions, including Formula #1.. it's too boring to watch how they drive in crcles for hours and hours... Can't believe they have so much fans!!

And I love driving, but can't watch that sport without falling asleep.
