White Children Now In Minority

The youngest Anglo children in Hillsborough County and across Florida are now a minority, foreshadowing the day when Florida - like four states now - becomes a majority-minority state.

Non-Hispanic whites in Florida accounted for fewer than half of all children younger than 5 last year, according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates released today. Slightly more than 47 percent of the state's youngest children were non-Hispanic whites, down from nearly 55 percent five years earlier.

In Hillsborough County, non-Hispanic white children have become a minority also, making up less than 47 percent of the population younger than 5, down from nearly 51 percent in 2000.

They need to know how much extra they need to raise taxes to pay for all the extra welfare. They also need the info so they know if they need to get more liquor stores, tobacco shops and car title pawn places to be opened in the area.

Ok, I'm still on my first cup of coffee but hold on a sec. Is it just me, or does that still not make a whole lot of sense? If the whites (in this demographic) make up around 47% of the population, that leaves 53% as the rest of the population. Unless that 48-53% is all one race (and I would assume it's divided somewhat equally between blacks and hispanics), then whites would still be the majority (unless, of course, I missed the memo that the only races now are "white" and "not white")...

47% is NOT a majority. If you get 47% of the vote you don't have a MAJORITY you have a plurality. Whites used to be over 50% well over 50% at one point.
