It's ridiculous to believe in god. There is ABSOLUTELY no evidence whatsoever of a god existing. You might as well believe in pink elephants with purple dots who created earth. But the 2nd will make you a lunatic and the first is totally accepted. Kinda stupid isn't it?

If another book than the bible got "famous" all the people believe in god right now would believe in something else and call that something the only truth. It's retarded.

in the beginning god created man - later man decided to return the favor

I believe in God but not the religion set up to worship him. Don't confuse the two

Most people believe in God because they are brouth up that way - if your whole family believes in God, then you very often just take it as a fact that God exists - so in other words you believe it too, usually without much thoughts on your own.

the above also applies to me - I can't say that I believe, but I can't say that I don't believe

well actually I'm closer to the second, but sometimes I wish God existed

God: "I refuse to prove that I exist, for proof denies faith and without faith I am nothing."
Man: "But the Babel Fish is a dead giveaway, isn't it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves that You exist, and so therefore, by Your own arguments, You don't. Q.E.D."
God: "Oh dear, I hadn't thought of that." He promptly vanishes in a puff of logic.

WOW, the "God"s are taking the lead...i'm shocked.

Not to offend anyone's beliefs but if you say "there's no God, no nothing, just chance" I think you are looking for attention. Anyone who has lived 30 years or more on this planet knows there's something holding together. Call it Karma, the force, whatever, but if you are "good, a relative term of course" , good things happen to you. It's just a fact of life. If you fuck people, you end up being misrable and getting fucked. fact of life. that's not chance.

i'm not saying it's a magic man in the sky either, but it's something.

having that faith has made me a better person - I am happy and content - better at my job with the sincerity, honesty and dedication I put into each client and in following what I believe are the truths taught - a better human being.

I agree! Also science has proven that energy cannot be killed and can only be transformed.... and we are are energy in a spiritual and physical form. the whole point of faith is believing in something that you can't necessarily see yet can see the effects of.

many people say they don't believe in anything they can't see, touch, taste smell or hear ..identify with the media of their five senses. yet you can't see the wind only it's effects. I have generally found that people who belive in very little are often very critical of others!

That's just causality in my opinion. If you eat too much bad stuff, you get fat. If you screw over everyone, people will eventually find out and screw you back.

What you attribute to "something", I attribute to habit.

If you're a good guy in general, it means that you have acquired some good habits and they help you in your life. You also look at the world and react differently if you're a "good" person.

It's a psychological effect called "self-fulfilling prophecy" which means that if you believe that your life is always full of problems, it will be like this, but mainly because you don't do anything about it because you're thinking that's normal.

So far I've found no reason to believe that there's either a god or some sort of unknown force. So I just stick to science, reason and work to get along with life. That has done me lots of good so far. Thinking that there's some mysterious force doing strange things makes no sense to me. If I want something in my life, I do everything I can to get it. I think and work. I don't need any force to help me. I'm self-sufficient. But to be, I have to know how to get what I want. Relying on a "something" doesn't cut it as far as I see it.

Just because you don't believe in a higher force doesn't have to imply that you are a nihilist. Far from it. You have nothing to rely on but yourself. As an atheist, you believe that just because you're nice, you don't get a cosmological benefit. So you need to be as good a person as you can be to actually get somewhere in this world, simply because there is no god and no force helping you.

Being an atheist, to me, seems more demanding, because you can't just rely on a somehow or god's help. You're bound to be a self-made man and it's in your hands what kind of man you make out of yourself. And that's one hell of a task and a tremendous responsibility as this is the only life I have.

Dostojewski once said: "If there's no God, anything goes."
He couldn't have been more wrong.

That's just my view on this. It's 100% non-spiritual. But if taken seriously, it can be very demanding morally.

Sidenote:
Looking at these stats, I start to think that my nick wasn't really chosen that wisely.

I say it goes a step further. You fuck someone out of money and three weeks later you blow the engine in your car. That is not causuality to me that's fucking karma, and i've seen it.

But hey, we'll never know will we?

And that's precisely why I don't believe in it.

According to my theory, this guy is just a careless motherfucker who neither cares about people nor about his car. Therefore he fucks people out of their money and his engine breaks. Stuff like that is practically bound to happen statistically.

But hey, no need to start a heated debate over this. It's a matter of belief as there's no proof, so we'd better just leave it at that.

I just pass on anything spiritual. I'm a good person. And if that gives me additional benefits even though I don't believe in them, all the better. I just don't want to rely on them.

there have been cases where things do defy logic and just don't work and don't fit neatly into a scientific explanation..however people will only believe and see what thier beliefs allow them too..it's cool to agree to disagree!

Oh yay, the same gaggle of non-believers with the same old bucket of insults and ridicule for those who choose to believe in something. Yippee.

When the day comes that everyone is just happy in whatever they believe (or don't believe) and can just shut the fuck up about what everyone else is believing, that's the day there will be a lot more peace on this spinning pile of shit we call Earth.

Just like you would call me nuts if i believed in the great pig who created mankind.

Once again what is it based on your belief in god? A book? A book from the fucking stoneage written by a bunch of guys who smoked too much pot?

What if they wrote about the great pig. Would that be your believe now? Your faith?

What if you lived on an island and your parents died at birth you would not know about the bible or god and therefor not believe in it. You would make up for your own gods. Maybe the most ridiculous ones. Then after 20 years someone finds you, takes you to the "real world" and tell you about jesus. You would call him nuts and defend your god.

Once again god is based on nothing. You just want to fill in the pieces you cant fill in and god is an easy excuse. I cant explain it so it must be god. There...now i dont have to think about it anymore...its explained.

God is a weakness.

Proudly atheist

The hypocrisy of religion makes me nauseous- it causes more pain and conflict in the world than anything else

Fuck religion

Don't get me wrong, I'm just as turned off by holy rollers and extreme bible thumpers etc. People who aren't happy until everyone around them believes exactly what they believe are sickening to me, and there seem to be plenty of those types on both sides of the debate.

Fact is there should BE no debate.

Thankfully on this board I don't see a whole lot of holy-rolling mindlessly-driven fundamentalist Christians preaching to the masses and rating everyone down for their lack of faith. However I DO see a lot of judgemental ridicule from the athiest side obviously attempting to bait those who believe into defending themselves.

Funny how some athiests bash the believers for being too preachy, yet here they are doing the very same thing in the reverse. Ain't life among humans grand? :D
