how bad does a - devalue a domain?

How bad does the dash devalue a domain?

example, fuckoff.com I know to be worth more than fuck-off.com if based on only the name itself, but by how much does the dash detract from value,,

Well, I know a three word domain which exists as wordwordword.com and word-word-word.com. Each domain is the same in every way otherwise.

They are both promoted equally but word-word-word.com does much better on the SEs.

I know it's more of a pain in the ass to add the '-', but I can't help thinking there's a certain amount of snobery involved against the '-' domain.

But then again I'm far from being an expert so perhaps someone more knowledgeable could chip in.

I notice that as well. I have a feeling it depends on other factors as well. Both off-page and on-page.

Hyphens decrease type-ins to practically zero.

But, for good keywords, a hyphenated domain can drive SE traffic, and thus, still have alot of value.
