Head of U.S. command: Iraq civil war possible

Quote:
"I believe that the sectarian violence is probably as bad as I've seen it, in Baghdad in particular, and that if not stopped it is possible that Iraq could move toward civil war," he testified at a hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee.

He is basically saying that if nothing changes, it will turn into a full-blown civil war in the near future.

damn right ... and it was forecasted by many, but they were "eliminated", because they were not good mouthpiece for the invasion ...

What a major fuckup, the same in Afghanistan ( soldiers and civils dying ) and soon in a theatre in Pakistan ...

anyone who reads the news can see it's already a full-blown civil war. there are like 100 people on average getting 'blowed the fuck up' and assasinated every day. that's a civil war if i've ever seen one.

No purpose, other than taking one trillion plus dollars away from us tax payers and giving it to the huge, already government subsidized weapons manufacturers. We the public think that the war has gone terribly wrong. The planners of this war think it has been an overwhelming success, and if you look at their true objectives, it has been, for them. They even say as much. Cheney is not bullshitting when he says he thinks the war is going well. The result couldn't have been better for them. Not only have they robbed us blind with very little resistance, they have increased instability in the middle east, which is one of the neo-conservative's stated goals.

of course it's going to escalate 1,000-fold, but essentially there's a civil war happening right now in Iraq. at what point does the media and gov't go ahead and officially label it as 'civil war'. there's enough shit happening today to go ahead and say - uh... guys? we gotta civil war here.

but yes, we haven't seen anything yet, you're right.

Iran could turn it into a civil war overnight, the US is lucky they have thus far tried to restrain the Shiite population from really responding. Of course it still may happen without them, but certainly if Iran exercised their control they could turn it into a huge clusterfuck of a nation. Not pushing for a cease fire in the Israeli-Hezbollah war could start to tip things over the edge very soon. In my opinion, King Abdullah of Jordan was very right when he said these such wars were in actuality weakining moderate Arab leaders in the region and strengthening those same radicals they are aimed at destroying. Some would ask what we can do than, in reality I think all we can do is support those moderate leaders to solve the problems in the region economically and socially and lead thae way and force a solution on Israel that solves that issue once and for all.
