Who has heard of or speaks Esperanto ???

Who has heard of or speaks Esperanto...the universal language that's easy to
learn for ALL nationalities, lacks complicated grammar rules and was VERY
popular between the 30's and 50's. Somehow it never made it big after the
war which really is a shame as it's so easy to learn. It would be the perfect
universal language. I just saw a documentry about it and was quite fascinated
by it.

Heard of it, and one of my schoolmates could write it. But it died because no-one want to drop their own language. English works fine, and it would cost billions to educate and change written instructions around the world.

It doesn't have to replace your own language. Actually when it was big a lot of
stuff already had written instructions in Esperanto. English works fine yes....but
it's by far not universal. Now with the Asian markets that are on the rise it still
would be a perfect language to communicate.

There's more people that speak Chinese, Russian and Spanish than there are
who speak English.....of course most people in "civilised or prosperous" places
speak english.....but with Asia that's a bit different imho.

It doesn't cost billions to educate.....it's far more easy to learn than any other
language. Even by people who lack any kind of decent education. It would
actually improve the situation of a lot of those people as they could use it
to trade/work with people they couldn't work or trade with without

Every educated person heard about Esperanto, but hardly anyone speaks it.

English rules nowadays and I don't see it changing anytime soon, so no need to learn Esperanto.

You must be American

Who's talking about a revolution? I just wondered if people heard about it or
speak it....and pointed out that it wasn't such a bad idea at all....just wondered
why it failed.

I already speak 6 languages fluently I don't need another to make myself heard

Before the second world war millions of people spoke it from all over the world
it was a HUGE movement. The inventor was Jewish..It got forbidden by the
Germans during the war and it never really picked up afterwards...but before
the war it was HUGE. The People's Union (before it was called the UN) actually
considered using it as the officialy language to communicate with. France
stopped VETO'd that as during that period French was the official language
and they wanted to keep that.

So, all the books you have to print for people to learn this comes free? All the hours people have to invest in it comes for free? I'm sure the farmers in India or Brazil would love to learn the language, so they could join chat-rooms and talk about agriculture ON THE PC THEY DONT OWN OR COULD AFFORD. All the new instructions that were in English, now have to be rewritten in Esperanto - and you think that is free as well?

It doesnt matter what language you speak, you can still communicate. I have installed systems in locations where people didnt understand a word I said.

The main reason behind Esperanto is like the old Latin - For the self-proclaimed intellectual and social elite to separate themselves from the uneducated.

So much for French.

I would support a universal language, which is none of the existing national languages for any country. That would give no one an advantage over others. Although I'm fluent in English and a few other languages, I would have no problem learning and using Esperanto for international relations, be it business or vacation.

back then aswell

it wouldn't cost anything more than adding chinese, russian or any other
language that would be added when Asia makes it big soon enough.

Apart from the fact that the benefits of a universal language outweigh the
costs of adapting anything that needs to get adapted for this....it's been
done numerous times over the course of history.....and it will happen again.

In fact it would be cheaper to have 1 language taught to people while now
people from all over the world are studying multiple different language to
communicate with eachother.....think about that for a second.

If it would really get picked up BIGTIME you could just have the native language
and esperanto as language on any instructions.....instead of multiple different
languages as used now....

.. and you call me "uneducated"
Oscar Wilde once said:

I will repeat that, and add a "GoFuckYourself" for free
