Just to throw in some names people perhaps haven't checked out, from various different styles:
Jimmy Bryant Charlie Hunter Phil DeGruy Lenny Breau Kevin Eubanks (see him live somewhere other than the 'Tonight Show'... his standing gig and various recordings don't really do him justice) Bill Frisell Henry Kaiser Fred Frith Guy Van Duser A couple of the above are kind of tough to find recordings by, but well worth the search. - Q. |
satriani, santana, hendrix :thumbsup

I love Zappa the most.. listened to soooooo many guitarist, but somehow i get moved by Zappa's sound most..not all his music is great but he has many utter brilliant tracks with incredible guitar solo's.
Btw, Stevie Vai played in Zappa's band ;-) Best drummer? Terry Bozio in Baby Snakes.. |

Bummer of a Joe Pass story: Once, years ago, I had tickets to see him as part of a concert that also featured Leo Kottke and a classical guitarist (whose name escapes me at the moment). We get to our seats, and right before the lights dim, they announce "We regret to inform you that Mr. Pass will not be performing tonight, as he has fallen ill." I think he died a week or two after that, without ever taking the stage again, if memory serves me correctly. - Q. |
