The House passed the Deleting Online Predators Act (DOPA) by 410 votes to 15. The Act forbids publicly funded organisations, such as schools and libraries, from allowing young people to access sites that have chat rooms or "social networking" elements. Under the proposed law, adults in such institutions can ask for permission to access the sites.

I always find it strange how fast laws seem to be passed in America - is it some kind of democracy on steroids?

WTF ? I can agree with schools blocking myspace there. But the whole library system ? some people only surf on their library computer.

I sure hope this shit won't get passed to affect whole school networks. Imagine large schools blocking myspace or facebook in on-campus housing facilities.
