3 days out of 11 years makes you, what, about 1 year old?

"does yous own yer own IPS yet?"
Um yes, thus the subject of this thread.
Just because you point out that our web site is on a legacy ip doesnt mean much. Thats our site, if its down an hour or so, then so be it... but our customers come first.

SplitInfinity 07-27-2006 12:13 PM

Oh and one comment, they were not down for three days solid, it was just a handfull of people.

fetishblog 07-27-2006 12:13 PM

No guy wires on those towers down in Mexico? What's up with that?

Looks pretty tall to have no guy wires on it.

SplitInfinity 07-27-2006 12:23 PM

Simplenet Yahoo (10487)
DBO (36025)
Pacnet (AS20228)
ADNC (6130)

All are network meet-me centers.
We have our own backhaul networks running between our networks.

SplitInfinity 07-27-2006 12:24 PM

"Looks pretty tall to have no guy wires on it."

Engineers built that, its waaaay too tall to have guy wires and does not require them the way its built. Not all towers need those. This is constructed to bear hurricane strength winds.

SplitInfinity 07-27-2006 12:26 PM

You want something to poke fun at AliG? :-) heheheh

Here is our security guard for one of the mexican towers...

LoL

The top of the hills are rat infested there, kinda gross.
We had to hire a company to kill them all and seal the soil around the concrete bunker so they cannot dig in again.

testpie 07-27-2006 12:33 PM

What started off as a "post decent hosts thread" has turned into a "my datacenter cock is bigger than yours" thread.

Yes, you get what you pay for, and yes (before you take pains to point it out) my signature does advocate DreamHost - what's your problem with that? If you really are "tired of trying to compete with el-cheapo hosts", then what is your beef?

SplitInfinity 07-27-2006 12:43 PM

Beef Stew, UMMMMM (Benchwarmers) hhehehehe

testpie... no beef, just tired of the garage based hosts bsing customers.
:-)

We have L3, Sprint and Cogent Direct, the others are aggreagted via DBO and ADNC

SplitInfinity 07-27-2006 12:47 PM

Still only 1 other host stepped up? :-)

Anyways....

Sparks 07-27-2006 12:52 PM

Small hosts left aside, your fucking billing department has been calling me for a month straight now about $600 I owe them. No matter HOW many times I tell them you refunded me because the server was setup wrong they are still calling me back.

Hasn't happened to me at any of the "small time hosts." I've never heard any of the "small time hosts" sellout any of their resellers just to try to gain business.

No hard feelings, I just don't have any tolerance for arrogance.

we have 3 but here is one. and hey chris whats up?

OrgName: OC3 Networks & Web Solutions, LLC
OrgID: ONWSL
Address: 530 West 6th Street
Address: Suite 504
City: Los Angeles
StateProv: CA
PostalCode: 90014
Country: US

ASNumber: 29761
ASName: OC3-NETWORKS-AS-NUMBER
ASHandle: AS29761

Oh yeah we have two of our own data centers too.

SplitInfinity 07-27-2006 01:08 PM

Funny how you post that flying the sig of another host.
Selling out resellers? Bah. I would respond differently had you posted as an individual :-)

If they are bugging you about 600.00 you owe, then you should talk to them.
Dont you think if you said to them "I was refunded because...."
they would find out from you who authorized the refund and etc?
And how was your server setup wrong eh?

If you were refunded, hit me up in ICQ and I will investigate that with you.
Being that I dont know who you are from your handle, I cant tell much from here. Regardless, you can always open a ticket at [email protected] or speak with our online people to take care of this.

Ill take care of you if its legit. If not, then I cant do much.

Peace out.

SplitInfinity 07-27-2006 01:11 PM

Ycaza - Nice! Glad to see you step into the thread.

This thread is like opening a can of worms, but what the heck, my intentions are good and all I care about is providing good customer service and networking.

In the end, sure, everyone can poke at me for starting this thread, but hell, any negative remarks simply help me teach my staff better things to do with situations. All companies have situations. We havent had any that would hurt us any more than any other hosting company.

So for your comments above everyone, appreciated even if I bitch back. :-)
This is GFY after all.

Ycaza 07-27-2006 01:18 PM

no worries brother, i never thought the thread was meant for me, i just figured I would lend you a little extra legitimacy. A lot of non entity hosts postin here, no ip's, no AS, no real bandwidth, but most of the time the people who choose them get what they pay for and come back thinking they won't go that route again.

fris 07-27-2006 01:20 PM

the place i am hosted at hosts many affil programs and still i only pay 250$ a month for 20mbps, but then again i manage my own box

Jesus christ, learn to speak english....And if you're trying to pull off an Ali G persona, he sucks flat out.

Sebastian Sands 07-27-2006 01:53 PM

I am with a few smaller hosts but my main stuff runs with CaveCreek and their support is superb, Maybe a bit expensive. But they really have their shit together unlike others I have tried.

Madcatz 07-28-2006 12:17 AM

why the fuck should a host step up to your fucking little call out game. you guys suck cock, you overcharge your customers and fuck them over. you aint shit and no respectable hosting company would ever do a public post as childish as this one. as for you calling out the "little guys". who the fuck cares if these little guys cant afford thier own AS yet.... you were small once too, dickhead.

babsy 07-28-2006 12:32 AM

Chris to support Ycazza here is one more ASN for this great Thread.

ASN22298

Look it up!

maybe in a few hours I will bump this thread with our 3rd ASN...

SinisterStudios 07-28-2006 04:35 AM

One of our ASN is 33066 , and i agree and disagree with alot in this thread. Owning and running your own DC is overrated, too many headaches, too expensive, too much to go wrong. Im much happier buying a few cages at Equinix and letting them deal with the chillers, generators, security, power conditioning, etc.. Maybe if you are a huge player in the business, it makes financial sense to have your own DC.

I agree with split and ycaza, there are alot of fly by night guys who have no idea what they are talking about. I remember some guys saying they just bought cisco 3750's and were going to do bgp on them.
Things like that make you go :Oh crap.

Real business people know that hosting costs $$$, your not going to run a paysite or equivalent on one of these cheap hosts. Thats why there is the Techie Media's, NatNets, Splits, Clickman's, etc.. out there when low pingtimes and uptime count more than price. Latency costs $$$ people, and so does downtime. And they usually cost alot more than you saved on that bargin hosts deal.

Sorry for the rant but i agree with Split, these el cheapo hosts do kill the business, all to make a quick buck.

Herb Kornfield 07-28-2006 05:33 AM

www.fixedorbit.com - Just place your hosts name into there and you can see their upstream bandwidth providers, their ASN and how many peers their upstreams really have.

Personally, I prefer having my gear in a carrier neutral facility so I can get whatever upstreams I want.

For instance, I have 2 racks at 1 wilshire in the Meet me room in LA. All connecting into Tier1 ISP's that are out there ... something on the order of 10connections currently..... No I am not a host, just a guy that has mission critical apps that my customers use 24-7................

As far as hosting - To me it comes down to support since you are depending on the host for your connection as a middleman to the net.

Get your own racks, power and IP's. The IPs are free mostly and support your own boxes if you want to truly ball. :thumbsup
