I'd like to think i'm a pretty flexible person, whatever it was, I was willing to be flexible in payment terms. It must have been absolutely devasting to run away from your problems like that.

Since you're in CA and he is obviously in CA under his GF's name, is there no telephone-book, or a register of residence in case you have her name? A call or letter to the register of residence (thats what its called in germany, no idea what it is in CA) often does wonders...
