Running Quad SLI.

So far the results are not that impressive.

Anyone else running 2 7950 GX2's?

Beta drivers are here now:

There are essentially NO programs that take advantage of quad SLI, well shit there are barely any that take advantage of SLI anyways so lackluster results are to be expected.

I have enough trouble with my dual SLI with my overclocked 7900 GTXs. The quad drivers just plain suck.

I have read those new 7950s are better off solo and not in a SLI config. Get a quad board if you wanna go quad.

SLI is not application controlled, you must be thinking of dual core cpu technology.

I run dual 7800 GTX's and i cant get a game that challenges them so why bother with anything else? They work flawlessly.

That?s not really what I meant. The programs have to be made to take advantage of the extra bandwidth, otherwise it's moot. Considering most apps and most games don't even take advantage of SLI yet, there is little point in shelling out a thousand+ bucks for your video card setups, even more for a Q-SLI setup. When at least half of the software out there start taking advantage of a SLI setup, I'll gladly upgrade my home shit. At work they always have to buy the 'newest' and 'greatest' things... sighs, what fucking morons.

There are plenty of games that can challenge those cards. Not to mention Ut2007 coming out shortly. You always buy with a good sized buffer for what might come out.

You do make a good point, SLI-compatible mobos allows for the ability to increase your comps abilities later on... but in the mean time, I just don't see a point. There are still only a handful of games that are out that can take advantage ? not nearly 50% and that's my set point. Soon as at least half the shit out there takes full advantage of a SLI setup, I'll upgrade. I don?t like throwing money away?. right now there are few games that can push a single 7900 gtx, much less a dual or quad setup. I?m waiting until sometime next year before I upgrade again, hopefully by that point it?ll be financially reasonable to upgrade to a SLI setup.

Actually, the problem is not the lack of graphic rendering power. The reason the Quad SLI is currently not very impressive is due to the chipsets being used (on the mobos). They allow for (2) x16 PCI-E pipelines, but in SLI mode they only run a maximum of x8 each. They need to start focusing on creating a true "dual x16" chipset for the gaming platforms like they have done with the workstation chipsets...

I like to try the new gear when it comes out.

BUT there are a ton of hassles being the first one out the gate.

Right now in a game like Half Life 2 in QUAD Sli the screen vibrates up and down like crazy

I run Battlefield 2 at 1900x1600 w/ highest settings 4x AA. Its simply amazing. I did however have similar "screen vibrating" issues with the new 64 bit Nvidia driver. I had to revert to an older driver, but I have been stable since then.

My biggest issue with SLI is my Apple Cinema Monitor. It has some compatibility issues, thats why I wouldnt dare trying the new 7950s at this point. Im also running at 64 bit OS, that makes it even harder to get a driver that doesnt go haywire.
