There are two models to reference here:

In the adult business, we regularly trade traffic with related sites, don't we? (sponsorship programs to pure out-and-out traffic swaps).

You don't go into Luigi's Italian restaurant and hand out fliers to Alessandro's Italian Restaurant.

I'm kind of at a loss to choose between the two, but it's Lens's board. Is it more like an adult site or a restaurant?

I should note that it's regarded as a no-no on most boards I've been on to advt other boards.

I think this whole pissing match is funny... I read ~3 boards regularly, and I know where I want to post to get answers to serious questions, just to shoot the breeze and so on. There are shitloads of boards, and it isn't if people are promoting other boards here or if they aren't that will keep GFY strong. By keeping it a great place to hang out, ask questions, and bounce shit around, it will keep its value to webmasters.

All this tiffing is just a pain in the ass now..

Lens has every right to make the rules in his house just as anyone else has. I didn't personally see that having it in a signature was that bad of a thing, but it is his board and I respect his wishes on it. Lens and the rest of the GFY team have done alot for me and I won't even think of trying to tell them how to run it.

I understand his reasoning though..... I wouldn't want someone coming in my front door and screaming at MY guests to leave MY house and come to theirs.

Yes like sites do trade traffic and such...... that is valid, but when I trade traffic with someone, it is MY decision to trade or not to trade........

Lensman has the right to decide who he trades with and who he doesn't, bottom line and even trying to dispute that is pointless. I don't and can't blame anyone for having a set of rules and making people follow them.........

And yes I have been guilty of this before too, but the instant I was asked to remove it, I did...... I was always under the assumption that as long as it was in my signature, it was ok, but I was approached and asked to remove it and did without hesitation...... my LAST intention ever is to offend someone in their own house.

If GFY sent 100 new people to Netpond, and Netpond did the same, that's a trade.

How do you think Serge's board got all his traffic? Because he spammed the shit out of Netpond and gave nothing in return. That's why most boards don't allow this sort of thing.

If blocking spam is censorship, then I agree that we censor. All established board do.

I use to work for a place that made pallets. They made some for both pepsi and coke, the coke pallet had a stencil in red paint that said "I Love Coca-Cola", somehow the stencil got on a pepsi pallet. We lost a 2million dollar a year contract with pepsi because of it.

My high school had a contract with Pepsi, every machine was from Pepsi and they even bought our basketball scoreboard. The other local high school had a contract with Coke. OK, it ain 't much but here's my 2 cents a minute:

I agree that boards shouldn't get spammed on other boards.

However I do think using it in a one time announcement should be ok.

Also signatures shouldn't be an issue.

In that regard look at the PC BBS. they are very strict on what url's you post in their general forum, but you can put anything in your sig as you see fit.

So in that regard I agree with the statement that being so uptight about it shows how insecure you are about the quality of this board. And to be 100% honest you really don't have to, it's one of a kind

And no matter how much I hate to admit it I also agree with Sleazy on this one it is a double standard.

This is scarrry, but in montreal the only board anyone talked about was GFY, and it was talked about a LOT by almost EVERYONE. Paysites, freesites, amateurs, cc processors, image brokers, etc. More so than any other topic.

That didn't happen last jan in vegas, it was mentioned but only breifly. The rapid growth is unreal and the relevant people who read this board now is almost scarry. It is now, without a doubt, THE adult industry board. There is NO compitation to this board - I say that again, there is NO compitation to this board. No other boards were mentioned in montreal.

So if I were you lens I wouldn't worry about it as links to GFY are on most every other board out there. Most guys like me don't even bother reading any other board at all. Let the little guys be happy and say what they will, GFY was once small too remember.

Everything you do in this world comes back to you. Good or bad.

Lens may not have spamemd other boards, but other people did for GFY - even if not intentional for commerical purposes. Fact of the matter is that it happened and continues to happen.

GFY didn't start big with webmasters from all industries and aspects of the adult industry. It grew into that. Only a dumbass would think differently.
It's popularity really exploded with folks outside of the Adult.com network in the last 4-8 months

However I do think using it in a one time announcement should be ok. Also signatures shouldn't be an issue. In that regard look at the PC BBS. they are very strict on what url's you post in their general forum, but you can put anything in your sig as you see fit. So in that regard I agree with the statement that being so uptight about it shows how insecure you are about the quality of this board. And to be 100% honest you really don't have to, it's one of a kind And no matter how much I hate to admit it I also agree with Sleazy on this one it is a double standard. Paysites, freesites, amateurs, cc processors, image brokers, etc. More so than any other topic. That didn't happen last jan in vegas, it was mentioned but only breifly. The rapid growth is unreal and the relevant people who read this board now is almost scarry. It is now, without a doubt, THE adult industry board. There is NO compitation to this board - I say that again, there is NO compitation to this board. No other boards were mentioned in montreal. So if I were you lens I wouldn't worry about it as links to GFY are on most every other board out there. Most guys like me don't even bother reading any other board at all. Let the little guys be happy and say what they will, GFY was once small too remember. Everything you do in this world comes back to you.
