There's a saying - and this is not the correct saying (at least I don't think) and google searching isn't helping but...it goes something like this:

You pet the dog (or befriend him)
You ride the horse
and You feed the tiger.

Was discussing this with someone on ICQ and we can't get the exact term or where it's taken from (haven't finished 'The Art of War' and was hoping it's in there)

Help....anyone?

You may be referring to something which Churchill said, to the effect that you feed the tiger (enemy) in the hopes that it eats you last.
