Its pretty easy. they put a hold on your funds while they conduct a fraud investigation.

Happend to a friend. they held more than 20k for 7 months, and then found out it was the wrong account. They did not even bother to let him know that they were holding them, and then when they released them, they did not bother to tell him.

Never had any problems with HSBC, my bank manager is cool and can get hold of him anytime.

Very happy with them and their service.

I am looking for a good offshore bank, who knows about one that accepts comissions from webmasters and don't ask you lots of question on each wire?

4.5% is still pretty shitty, when you calculate in inflation, you get only 1.5% or so over inflation, hardly worth it... if you are going to save you might as well invest in something that makes 10%+ per year, like stocks for example....

But see this is 1.5% with keeping the principle.

With stocks you have no gurantee and may lose your initial investment.

What's flawed about it? option 1, you basically keep what you already have (1.5% gain is really too small to notice) option 2, with some risk you intend to make some gains...

I have an account with them, but I've only had it for a short while. Thus far, I am pleased.

What's better, ING or HSBC???

I thought about HSBC but I don't like the potential of a large amount of money being held for "fraud" and having it turn out to be the wrong account like someone stated above.

I'm interested too - am considering HSBC for their Euro Dollar accounts (in Canada). They seem to be one of the few banks with outlets in Canada which can accept Euro Dollar wires (without any fake fixup pretend conversions - eg -> Euro -> USD/CAD -> Euro).

Some billing processers overseas can send Euros (converted from other currencies) at better rates than first converting to US.

As most Canadians know, a US money wire is routed through Bank of America first (and they take their slice), then, in some cases (pretend US accounts) converted to Canadian dollars (taking a slice) and the converted to US dollars (taking a slice) - not to mention when you try removing the funds.

Is anyone in Canada using HSBC for Euro Dollar accounts?

I think ING is up to 4.35%. Never had a problem with them. I am thinking of trying out Emigrant Direct though. I never like having too much money in one bank.

HSBC is up to 5.05%. Emigrant Direct is going to 5.15% as of 7/28. ING has been falling way behind the game lately. I have very little left in there any more.
