1. Sponsor knows recipient will probably give them free publicity by thanking them on the board(s).

2. Sponsor gives gift.

3. Recipient thanks them on the boards.

I'm simply pointing out that sponsors do not give out gifts 'out of kindness', they do it because for giving a 50 cent pair of flip-flops, their reputation is boosted by XXX dollars on the board by it being pointed out that they give out 'cool gifts'.
