<b>Has anyone seen this tour in the contest till now?

I have a feeling it's getting missed :( - or maybe I made a bad design and just think it's good. Sorry, this is probably a no do, but I'm really disappointed with myself now.

<b>Or do I get less points for giving a choice of 2 tours? Shit, I hand drew this whole tour myself and spent a huge amount of time the past 4-5 days on this, stopping almost all other work, and it's really really disappointing. I know I'm being a cry baby, and sorry about that..

Hypo - both tours look very good. I saw only one of them and gave it a high mark, but i'm afraid that most people might have stopped at the splash page, which is a shame. good work man ;)

BuckNaked 06-07-2002 10:25 PM

I believe when amp came up with this concept it was to blow the fucking doors off the adult design business with your BEST work, the best you had the best you could do, it was a design contest.

The people who are voting on these, and 99% of the clients you design for want their sites to be fucking stunning works of art, with all the cool gizmos and techniques you can pull off in a great design, while still being within the parameters of dialup.

The bottom line is that the designs that are ahead are ahead because they are better designs, and appeal to the masses which as designers is who we try to appeal to everyday of our design career.

Fletch, I can't wait to see what you did, your work's getting better everyday.

To some of the others who's designs aren't in the top ten but still gave it 100%, good work, it takes time to create kickass work, if it was easy any ass monkey with photoshop would be doing it. (Sometimes it seems like they are these days:winkwink: ) keep practicing, and you'll get better.

Good job people, we need to do this again in a few months.

Now where's my photoshop manual:Graucho

:winkwink:

mischief 06-07-2002 10:27 PM

Some awesome work there, good luck to all. :thumbsup

In addition I have a video of the pop art show which wou8ld piss off many people, many artists from Basquiat to Koontz work at my fingertips in the middle of the night ....:winkwink:

Thanks Machine. Yes, I'm afraid I made the splash page too obtuse for some - but I didn't think the voting would be like this. I just didnt know which site to enter, thinking people might be biased against toons so I entered both, and just did a quick splash page thinking that would be unimportant, and people would at least see both the tours. With so many tours looks like the people are just skimming through the splash pages, and my splash page is really blurry :(

I was hoping to at least make it to the top 10 ater so much effort. Here's the splash page, in case some of you didnt proceed beyond that -

I thought your site was really good and I really dug the toons. You are a great artist. There are some good sites in the contest and I am not trying to put anybody else down but your site was the most memborable to me. My gf asked me what the hell a "gausian blur" was. I got a big kick out of that and had to break out the photoshop and school her :1orglaugh

I dont care about being disqualified now. So long as you guys at least take a look at the full tours I have created ... it's really shocking getting the feeling that no one has even seen the tours I so painstakingly made, just cos people didnt proceed beyond the splash page.

You're disappointed?

I'd give my left nut to have artistic ability like that. :winkwink:

The splash page with two different tour entrances may have screwed up things for this competition, but the actual work is awesome.

Hypo, dont worry man - you have great skill :thumbsup

I personally think that the judges should take both your tours into account even if they are not in the top five due to people overlooking them because of the splash page. both tours are excellent and deserve a top three final ranking imo.

anyway, you shouldn't be disappointed, you did an excellent job ;)

Cheers,
The Machine

That's EXACTLY what happen. Both of those tours were fucking brilliant and very original...by far my favorite in the whole contest.
Though, it was confusing cause i didn't know what to vote on. Splash page, or one of the tours? I gave it an extremely high score without even thinking twice.

Though i think people saw the splash page and didn't know to move forward, knowing there are TWO separate tours depending on where you clicked...actually took me a minute to understand it myself. So they voted on the splash page. But i knew that splash page couldn't be it. :)

Beautiful fucking job, and the winner by FAR in my book.

Kimmykim 06-07-2002 11:25 PM

OK OK STOP THE JEEP

Before this turns into something totally unneccesary, maybe the caveat of either be professional or pretend you are -- the first of the guidelines! should be brought back up.

I looked at all the tours -- EVERY FREAKING PAGE, and it ended up taking way longer than I thought with the errors and all -- and I'll tell you what I based my voting on. Not that it matters, since only LoveAsianChicks likes me anyway ;) -- but this is what I looked at in them. And they aren't in order since it was more of a total deal for me. I started EVERY site with 5 points and went up or down from there to vote.

a. graphic ability -- shit that was chopped up around the edges, not blended well, or on the other hand, stuff that was way too far out there, regardless of niche. The bottom line on a paysite tour is what will it do, otherwise the contest should have been to simply make a site, any site, not a tour. If it didn't fare well graphically, points off for that in my head.

b. sellability -- as a surfer would it interest you enough to keep clicking or hit the join now? if not, i took off points in my mind.

c. ease of navigation -- I have to say it, MY favorite tour had the freaking button on the first page hidden so well I had to look for it. If *I* cant find it, how is a surfer who wants to see more going to? Points off for that.

d. was it fitting to the category it was selling? I saw some tours that would have been better suited to the vanilla mega site niche than what they were selling, so I took off points for that.

e. innovation -- I also saw a great tour, was among my favorites, that was just flat. It didn't have any snap, crackle or pop, which could have easily been added -- hopefully this tour will be sold to someone who says can you rework a little of this, a little of that, and it will be all that it can, not just what it is. This one could add or subtract points on my mental scale.

My final checkpoint was this -- IF I were going to pay for a tour for a site for X category, would this one cause me to say, WOW, this is as good as some of what I know is out there and wasn't represented here. If it did, I added points back on for that fact alone.

So that's how I personally judged the sites, and no, I didnt even attempt to find out who built any of them.

I've talked to a couple paysite owners and we found a couple to be very interesting.

So once again, when it's all said and done, if you weren't doing work for someone on contract, and your site is good - what someone is looking for -- or just plain good, consider it sold, and possibly a good bit of contract work coming your way as well.

Good luck to everyone :)

Fletch XXX 06-07-2002 11:30 PM

Nice post KimmyKim, thanks for voting so honestly and with professional critique in mind, I bet you've seen a lot of tours o'er the years eh?

Holy crap. That's way more complex than my system.

I gave the first site a 1. The second site a 2. The third site a 3....

J.R. 06-07-2002 11:40 PM

rules are rules..

if your to dumb to follow rules, you
should be disqualified!

rules are meant to be guidelines.. a few of
these sites did not follow the rules which can
lead to unfair votes.. both good or bad.

If you failed to follow the rules, you loose.

The Machine 06-07-2002 11:43 PM

the idea here is to find the best site and people should not suffer because of the imperfections of the system (not that there were many but the exceptions must be taken into consideration).

I've seen alot of sites Fletch, most of which I'd like to forget...

Were your links on the blurred splash page not working earlier?? I looked through every page on every site and I don't think your links worked when I first checked it and only saw your blurred splash page, so of course it got a low vote because that's all there was.

After seeing the rest of it, I would have voted higher.

sorry,

RD

Hypo 06-08-2002 01:59 AM

The links always worked, it was just that they were over the text instead of the images.. that's messed up the whole thing. I havent changed anything as they had blocked the ftp over 12 hours back - this is the site they show right now, it's got the links, but maybe not that obviously. I didnt think it would be that hard to figure out..

It's probably been right around 12 hrs since I voted [give or take] I think they were posting on this thread at that time for everyone who still needed ftp setup to shoot them an email.

I'm sure I click everything there was to click, like you said, it's not THAT hard to figure out.

Nice design though.
You can be proud of it regardless.

I was thrilled to see so much talent showcased. I just wish it had a TRUE judging (as in stats- let's see who converts!!!)

I'm glad that I didn't enter: some hands are best held close to the chest...

Gramma 06-08-2002 07:30 AM

I was really hoping to see some really innovative stuff in this contest - I thought asialove was the most DIFFERENT - followed by the gaussian blur - (I was trying to figure out what wooonymphs were though - that font confused me for a minute)
sex with monsters was a unique idea (in my experience) - Tour was ok - but the concept was really intriguing :)
I guess after so long in the biz .. all the nakedness just blurs together - it really takes something unique to stand out.

This was a great opportunity for designers new and old to showcase their work - Good work everyone!
