    Good marketing or terrible error?

So I watch the food network while I work and channel flip at night. The last week or two, the've been advertising this special 3 piece knife set similar to whats used by rachel ray. It's only $99.95 and some proceeds go to charity.

I could use a couple of new knives I think, so I go to foodnetwork.com. Is the knife set on the front page? No. Odd.. millions of viewers have been impressed by the ad so far, but it's not front and center. So I click the "Shop" link. Is the knife set there? No.. Another 2 piece set is there for $99.95 though. So I start clicking around and see several similar knives, but not until about the 4th page do I find the knife set. And I had to find it by reading the text description, because for that knife set, the image is broken!!

So, is this a horrible mistake? Or do you think they're selling more knife sets at a higher profit and leaving it buried and broken on purpose?

Yup, what you are describing is known as "bait and switch."

You should report it to the FTC.

It might seem that way I agree. But it's not a true "switch", since the advertised deal is there once you look for it. I've got to imagine the profit margin on knives is pretty damn good without having to screw with people.
I know in Japan for instance, a good knife can be $5000 easy (yikes!).

It just seems retarded to me.

Marketing knives is a pretty hard business without having any objects to Cut on....but i guess if you drive the people to the site and relinquish the prices to the customers, then maybe they'll accept the Reel values to the image and its knives quality......I still like the foodnetwork.com eitherway.....Rachael DElivers with 40 dollars a day show.......
