Is all current dance music constantly repetitive 2 second loops?

I have been out of the club scene since Katrina (the one club I do occasionally get to has a dyke DJ heavy into what my friend labels "booty music"... they aren't playing current "club" music). So tonight I'm twirling around on Sirius and end up on a program calling itself the Saturday night non-stop dance party, claiming to be playing the country's hottest dance mixes.

Every "song" for nearly 2 hours has been the exact same formula, a 2 second riff over and over for a minute or two, then another sound added to the riff which goes another minute or so, then maybe a word or two vocal snippet repeated dozens of times, at some point the drum machine is let loose looping "solo", halfway through which some sound effect starts creeping in, then back through more of the same until the next song, which sounds much like the previous one. It reminds me of when a record would stick, you bump it a bit and it sticks on the next groove... (although I'm sure this makes the DJ's mixing job much easier).

Is that what dance music has come to? It's worse than the no-talent stuff regular radio tries to pass off as music.

dude, I am a dj and I find it harder and harder to find good electronic music anymore...it really takes a full day of listening to shit to find 2-3 all right records

the trouble is with the electronic scene these days is that they let anyone dj and call them gods becuase they can match a few beats, so when the dj gets that god complex and decides to write music, what you end up getting is that repetitive shit...or even better shit like "barbie girl"

Oh wow! 2 hours and 5 minutes there is finally a song with real vocals (they stole the main line from another song, although the rest of the song is not the one from the line snatched). It's got a standard mid 80's drum machine rapid cowbell though, that sets it really far from the rest of the stuff tonight

I scour the record bins for good music, and most of the time anymore house, trace and progressive are all those repetitive beats and no soul

that is why I converted to a breaks lover, breaks are really coming up farther and farther, but at the same time they are still very underground

I suggest checking out some of these artists if you want some nice dance shit

                Plump DJ's
                Stanton Warriors
Madox (link in my sig for his mix)
                Freq Nasty
Fatboy Slim DJING - not breaks, but his DJ sets are really fucking cool, if you want one let me know I will post it for you
                Atomic Hooligan
                Aquasky and Masterblaster
                Pendulum

I like a mix to include a variety. That 2 solid hours of nothing but repetitive beats had me nearly crazy, but I stuck it out to see what is considered the "country's hottest dance mixes".

Oddly at the top of the hour although it is the same program they started to play some songs with vocals.

oh, i gotcha....yeah, i hate it when there is NO variety at all in a dj set or mix of music....

When I was on his site I clicked on one of the music samples and it matched the song playing on Sirius so well it took me a moment to tell it wasn't the same song

He's on OutQ on Sirius. Gay bar music used to be so cutting edge that we always had a lot of straight couples who came to the clubs just because they knew they weren't going to get hit with a better mix anywhere else. The Bourbon Pub in New Orleans upstairs disco (The Parade) still does a decent job http://bourbonpub.com/ram/paradestream.ram
(warning, that link has live video from the dance floor)
