did the program mention anything about reverse osmosis or ozonated water? i'd imagine that would be cleaner than tap.

It depends where you are dude.
If you go in any city near mountains most of the water comes from "nappes phréatiques" and stuff like that ... source water. A lot better quality then the filtered water.
But here in quebec (even montreal), we have really high standards compared to a lot of other big cities in NA.
