Oh SNAP! US House of Representatives OKs credit card ban on betting

Let's just hope the Senate thinks otherwise. Pretty smoothly written language too. If approved, this might be a lethal (legally speaking) approach to some smaller online casinos.

Actually what will probably happen is people will load their credit card in a 3rd party that will pay the casino... there will be some workarround all over the net.

From what I have heard, the Senate is already saying they will veto the bill when it gets to them.

The language is wide enough to cover netteller and other 3rd party payment systems.

Wow I didn't know the Senate had veto power.

Did we change constitutions over the holiday weekend when I was away?

Damn that sucks.

What irks me is that everytime they run something on the news about "illegal internet gambling" they always show party poker, and poker isn't gambling.

The gaming industry will survive though. There's always electronic checks, wire transfers, and prepaid cards.

How is putting up a wager that you could lose or win money on not gambling again?

Poker is gambling dude ... wtf you're talking about. There is a lot of chance involved in the game.

Veto and reject mean exactly the same thing, and the senate has the power to reject it. There is that easier for you to understand? There was no need to attack my wording........

I read that there have been similar bills like this in the past, for example in 2002 and 2003. They never made it to the Senate, let alone pass the Senate. I really don't see it all happening before November this year. They have far more important things to vote on.

What is a bit weird though is that quite a few Demo's voted yes.. but even then, there will lots of companies that are going to complain and stuff. But I read that even if this bill passes, it probably won't do anything to online gambling.

And banning porn on the internet is even more far from happening.

They really need to stop coming up with those lame ass bills and do something more important. They are not going to pass or anything.

"The land of the free" - but you are not able to decide what sites you visit and whether you're going to double your dough or find a regular job and pay taxes to fund lame ass bills.

I know alot of professional poker players that would disagree wholeheartedly with that statement. People like Chris Ferguson, Annie Duke, and Howard Lederer for instance.....a good hand will always beat a bluff.

Yet another case of our elected representatives going against our wishes. The current government lineup is out of control.

The trick is to make the two hand think you are bluffing when you are not.

Al-Quaeda and North Korea fully support any action that leads to more effect underground conduits for moving money around, to be developed.

I don't know. Why don't you ask some of the politicians that you suck their dicks for how state lotteries that they endorse arent gambling.

Yes, they will. And for those who dont yet have an eGold account, go to the link below and get one. At least you'll be using money thats backed by something other than the government's promise to pay.

// eGold, Ltd. -- Trade with Money Thats Worth Something

http://www.e-gold.com/e-gold.asp?cid= 2890940

And there will always be Western Union. They cant stop internet gambling, they are just mad that they cant tax it like they can Vegas.

I believe that's why it's legal in California to run Poker clubs...considered a game of skill not chance...

At least that's what a friend that knows a bit about that industry told me...

It's called lobbying Anyway, they don't have anything to fear... in fact, with the BRAND recognition and experience they have I would think they'd welcome online gambling.
