This is a full time job, trust me. More like a SEO type of job since you are always trying to be one level above the P2P algorithms.

Then you need the DRM (If you are using WMV) or The Quick Time Pop up. I know you have the DRM since you bought it from me :-).

Third you need servers; servers have to be in different IP range and having them in multiple parts of the world helps. Look at 100 - 200. Linux boxes are easy to mange but I use Windows.

PS: I got 50 servers now that I use for my own, if you want to put your files ping me, this offer is only for Will since he bought the DRM software from us.

Jay who are you with?

vvq 07-11-2006 02:02 PM

You should be able to get some cheap machines ($50 per, per month) if you talk to some dedi providers. Especially if you're talking about hundreds. Bandwidth is gonna cost ya though.

Ecchi22 07-11-2006 02:18 PM

I had a chance to test p2pads.com service they seems to be really nice ;)

how many uploads per day are you getting on 50 windows boxes per server?

thebigstorm 07-11-2006 02:24 PM

we have been doing it for almost a year now, but the benefit is working in a datacenter and your boss giving you all the servers and bandwidth for free.

Spudstr 07-11-2006 03:38 PM

200 servers? Your a funny guy, We are having amazing results with a few. I have over 300 of commited bandwidth to dispose along with 3 gigE's worth of capacity fill on my network. I have servers arriving daily and deploying on a p2p service along with my hosting clients. Next week my IP space should be allocated and it will bump my CLass C's count up to 43 total class C's.

Watch in a few weeks once we gather results from testing Relink software has a storm brewing up for you guys if you throught ABP was good. Just wait.

spacekadet 07-11-2006 04:31 PM

Cory W 07-11-2006 04:38 PM

FuqALot 07-11-2006 05:15 PM

hehe all you need to do is buy 100 cheap ebay pda's with sharing software and drop em somewhere outside near fast open wifi computer. hide them well and you have free bandwidth.

Yeah, I'm finding that we have great results with Vic 20's. It's tough to get enough, but they're working.

There really are a lot of problems setting up reliable p2p traffic. We're still working to improve our process and today, we can deliver some very targeted effective traffic.

5-10k per month? KEEP GOING!

100 servers x $300 a pop = $30,000 PER Month and that is before you make a cent of revenue.

Now try 200 servers which would be a decent starting point...

Unless you have $100,000+ in capital available I would not even bother... Now I know that is a biased statement coming from me but I'm just trying to give you an idea of how expensive and time consuming a project like this is.

DH

I have more then 100K in the bank to do it, so thats not an issue.

Why do 100 servers cost $30,000 a month ? are you leasing them or am i missing something ?

me too.... two seperate ones actually... what people need to understand though is that there is a lot more than just having a good app and a bunch of machines.

you get out of p2p what you put into it.. its not as easy as people make it out to be.. but i guess it depends on what your expectations are... if you are just looking for a few thousand hits a day, then yes it is easy and cheap.. if you are looking for 100k-1mil, its a lot of work and a lot of money... :2 cents:

I don't think we're thinking of the same thing.

The one I am thinking of will be a standard I am sure. But I've already said too much, I am out of this thread. :)

well if its related to your sig, then yes i do.... :thumbsup

will76 07-11-2006 07:14 PM

yes i really have that kind of money to spend.

I love all you guys who say " coming soon, but cant say anythign about it".... :winkwink:

Seems like everyone has something "Coming soon". does anyone have something coming now.

I would like to explore all my options. If i can spend " x " and do it myself for years and years and make " x " then that is worth a shot. If it is too much money and trouble and not likely to make what i want then i may go with a easier approach like p2pads, if they can deliver.

Decissions.....

Everyone keeps saying this. I amazed that so many people have a clear picture of the exact resources they need to do this.... As I am clueless.

Myself and my partner, whom is an expert programmer, will both be arriving Thursday. We have some experience with running p2p on servers from several years ago. This was before MS changed the default settings in WMP to not run script commands. We quit after that as the traffic took a major dump.

Now we are starting again using DRM and are still in the development stage working with the SDK and exploring the capabilities. We'd be up for a p2p sit down and share some ideas.

There is a superb Cuban coffee shop about 1 block west and 1 block south from the hotel where they make the best breakfast and have super coffee. Maybe we can do a p2p breakfast.

I'm driving to the show so I'll have wheels.

I wouldn't worry about competition, I just think there's a LOT of demand and not many people offering a service other than P2PAds which is why I think myself and will are interested ;)
